The estimator was good at returning calls and answering questions. The crew was adequate while working on the job. However, when I called the office a few days later to ask a question about the job, I felt that the supervisor became very unprofessional. (For example, he informed me this was a big company that does "much bigger jobs than driveways.") Based on my phone interaction with that individual, I would advise against using this company. Furthermore, I have since noticed that there is overspray from the sealcoating spattered all over the bottom of my garage door.

However, Mr. King never returned to apply the sealer despite over 12 phone calls requesting service. Spoke with many assistants and Mr. King himself offering prompt service yet no one ever arrived as promised. After a 5 year struggle, sought input from BBB. Richard King's response to BBB implied that I directed him not to apply sealer - obsurd! After several iterations, the BBB issued an unfavorable status for American Paving as they too were apparently unsatisfied with their response. Moreover, the driveway has since developed 2 problem areas. One where the asphalt has broken up and one where it has sunken (dip) where the base layer was apparently inadequate. To add insult to injury, on 4/15/11 American Paving placed a flyer in my mailbox offering to seal my driveway for $2385. They act oblivious that I have contract for $1498 already paid in full and signed by RHK for said sealer application. Despite the apparent initial quality of the job I would never consider using this company again given their lack of durable professionalism and outright theivery tactics.

I got one of their flyers in my mailbox that advertised seal coating for $400 or so. I had been needing to not only get the seal coating done, but needed some repairs where a big tree had uprooted and damaged a small area of the driveway.
For some reason the first time I called was not a good experience. I felt as though the lady on the phone was trying to get me off the phone, and seemed to not want to answer any of my questions. When Richard called me back he let me know that he would need to view the damage before I could get an estimate, and that the $400 flyer was for seal coating only (fair enough).
He was prompt in getting me an actual estimate, but I was pretty surprised that the cost would now be over $1200. When I asked why it would be so much more, I was told that it was $600 for 2 seal coats, and than $600+ to bring the asphalt truck out regardless of the size of the repair. I figured that repairing the driveway and resealing for that price was better than having to eventually recover the whole driveway with asphalt. I did like that they guaranteed the work for 2 years also.
Before I approved the quote, I made sure to let them know I would like to have the work done while I was out of town. I was told this would be no problem which was nice. The only bad thing is that one day I came home and some of their crew was repairing the driveway. Not the worst thing ever, but #1 it was not during the time we had scheduled and #2 I was told they went ahead and did it early because they could use the truck on another repair job near/in my neighborhood. #2 bothered me a bit because I felt if you are splitting up the jobs on bringing the truck out, then surely the price of bringing the truck out would be lessened. This was not the case (and perhaps this is normal), but in fairness I did not complain about it b/c I had already agreed on an estimate. In addition to that, there seemed to be a bit of confusion about when the job was supposed to be done, because they called me several times saying it was going to be done sooner, but I told them I wanted it done when we scheduled it originally. They did end up doing the sealing while I was out of town so it worked out fine.
As far as the work goes, I felt they did a pretty good job. The work was fairly clean and my old driveway looks revived. I felt they did a really good job patching up any big cracks, and cleaning up any vegetation on the edges. The fact that it is guaranteed for 2 years helps too, so I can rest easy knowing if any problems occur I can get them to come out and take care of it. The part they repaired was done well in my opinion also.
Overall not the best experience but not the worst either, and I am happy with the work they did. First time I have hired anyone for asphalt work, so although I would use them again, I would for sure get additional quotes from other companies next time I need that sort of work done.

Mr. Richard King is the owner's name. Everything turned out to be good. They did an excellent job putting in the new driveway, and I had an agreement with them to come back the following year in the spring to coat it. They did everything they said they were going to do, so they were very good.

The crew showed up as promised. Great job cleaning and prepping driveway for sealing. Time will tell about the quality of the product, but they did an excellant job in preparation, sealing cracks, laying the topcoat, cleaning up afterward.

They did a good job. They were prompt. They came when they said they were going to come and did what they said they were going to do and they did a very nice job. I would rate them highly.

I was initially pleased with driveway. However, after the specified 6 months (Richard King - owner) failed to show for the seal coat application. Have documented 2 calls per year since. Richard King promises he will seal driveway within "2 weeks" each time I speak with him. He obviously has no intention of honoring his contract. Additionally, the driveway has not held up as promised. Two problem areas have developed where the road way has substantially "chipped up" and one where the road has developed a sizeable dip (approx. 6 inches deep). Mind you I have had no heavy traffic on the road to warrant this failure. To make matters worse, an American Paving LLC representative left a flier in my mailbox promising to seal my driveway for a "total discounted price" of $2385. Apparently the company is completely unaware they are contractually obligated and have been paid "up front" to perform this service already. Spoke with Richard King personally each time and received nothing but empty promises. I will never use or recommend this company.
