As sure as clockwork and bad weather at the Bristol spring race. Mclain's provided and installed the original system in 1977 during construction of my home. I am a second generation owner of the property. Since the original install in 1977, Mclain's has been the only HVAC to service our needs regarding our system. I scheduled 3 other estimates, (likely the only time this home considered even checking with another company). Mind you any other company being considered would have to be overly impressive, after being continually satisfied and impressed with Mclain's service for the last 45 years. As it turned out, Mclain's visited, assessed, quoted, and we're able to install the new units before any of the other companies could even make an initial visit. As usual I couldn't be happier with the work, the clean up, and the work ethic and professionalism,( and of course the equipment), of McClain's and their employees. The Installers, Randy and Malachi, are the type of young men that give a cynical old fart like myself a glimmer of hope regarding the younger generation of seemingly meatheads. Yes sir we can only hope there a many more like those two in their peer group. This was the second time Randy had worked on my system for Mclain's. He's an asset to the company even if he seems to be higher than average gassy after lunch.( Keep some Beano on hand)...Maybe in another 45 years if the home remains in the family, other bids may be considered, but as long as I'm the owner/occupant here I see no reason to bother with anyone other than Mclain's for any and all of my HVAC needs. This should be true for all homeowners, landlords, ECT. within their service area. Seriously save yourself some time and trouble just call Mclain's Heating and Cooling when you need HVAC service. Believe me, in my experience with my home's HVAC needs, "If you ain't Mclain's Heating and Cooling, you ain't s#!t.

We had previous Semi Annual HVAC check ups performed on our home and our Rental home with this company and were satisfied with the results. So when our home A/C was not performing up to par we contacted them to schedule a service call. The company sent a Tech out 2 days later - the Tech started by testing the exterior unit and then went under our home to check the Interior Unit.
The Tech did not speak to us before or during the service call, we received no "in process info" about the condition of the unit or the diagnosis. When the Tech was ready to leave he explained that he had found a large leak in both the Exterior and Interior units. He stated that the Exterior unit would have to be replaced and the Coil in the Interior Unit would also need to be replaced. He stated that someone from McClane would contact us the next day to give us the cost of both. I asked if the cost of this service would be rolled into that quote and he stated yes. HE DID NOT LEAVE ANY PAPERWORK OR INVOICE! Thus I did not sign any documentation regarding the service.
We left the next day on a short Vacation (4 days) and expected to receive a message from McClain re the Quote. After returning home and several more days pass with no contact from Mcclane we decided to contact another company that was rated highly on Angies List for a second opinion. That company sent out a Tech the next day. - The second company tested both the exterior and interior units. That Tech found NO LEAK at all in the exterior unit! He did find a leak in the interior Coil but when he ran the Serial Number off the Coil we learned that the Coil was still under Warranty!
I received a Bill from McClain approx 35 days after the date of service for a Service Call and 5 pounds of Refrigerant. Since I was never consulted before adding the coolant to the system, nor what it would cost - AND - since learning that the McClain Tech reported problems with our unit that did not exist (which could have potentially cost us THOUSANDS of Dollars for unnecessary replacements) I disregarded the Bill.
After receiving a second Bill in July I called the company and left a message but I received no return call. After receiving a third Bill in August I again called the company and was able to speak to the receptionist. When she offered to "help" I asked her to pull my file and review the Bill, I explained our frustration and what we ultimately did to get the unit repaired. During the conversation I had to continually ask her not to interrupt me - suddenly she disconnected the call!
AT NO TIME after that phone conversation did anyone from McClain call me back to try and resolve this issue!
In my Mail today I received a Collection notice for the $215.
I rate the work of McClain Heating and Air as POOR and their Communication / Professionalism / Customer Service as appalling.
