Auto Transmission Service
I had a 2002 Ford Escape that the transmission had stared slipping. My regular mechanic could have replaced it with a Jasper transmission for about $3500. I took it to Tri City, and they said they could rebuild it for $2100. The Jasper warranty was 3 yr/36000 mile, Tri City was 1 yr/12000 mile. I went ahead and had them rebuild it. I also requested a transmission cooler, and replacing a leaking oil pan seal ( which required axle removal that they were doing anyway). They said they didn't do oil pans, but they could get a mechanic down the road to do it while everything was apart.
When they said it was ready, I went to pick it up. I asked about the transmission cooler, and they said they had forgotten, but would put it in. So I left it again. I got called later that day saying it had not been done because it already had an aftermarket cooler on it. So I went to pick it up again. They had not done the oil pan either, but at that point, I just wanted my vehicle back.
Immediately on driving the car, I could tell something was wrong. I drove it straight to my regular mechanic, and he found that they had bent a front rotor when putting it back on because a chunk of rust had fallen behind it before they had tightened it. This was over $100 repair, but I just paid it.
Shortly after the repair I started noticing red fluid on my garage floor. I took it to my regular mechanic (John at North Roan Service), who said the axle seal was leaking at the transmission. So I took it to Tri City (still under warranty). They said that there was no leak. So I drove it back to John, and he put it up on the lift and showed me where it was leaking. I took a picture and sent it to Tri City, and they said to bring it back, so I did. This time they did replace the seal, and said that someone must have wiped it dry before since it had been raining, so they hadn't seen the leak.
After this the car ran fine for awhile. Then one day it started loosing power. I took it to John who said it was the transmission. So I took it back to Tri City. They said it was the transmission, and that I needed it rebuilt again. The cause, according to them, was clogged exhaust. They said they would give me a price break, but would need to call me later for specifics. The car had 17 months and 18k miles since the rebuild. I took it back to John, who did exhaust pressure testing (which Tri City had not). He said that it was about time to replace the 3 catalytic converters, but the exhaust was not the problem. I spoke to other mechanics who were less cautious about disagreeing with Tr City's assessment.
I ended up selling this vehicle as is for a significant loss of money. I asked the individual who bought it to let me know what the transmission issue really was when he found out. He sent me a message later stating his transmission guy said the gears were starting to fuse together. He reportedly called Tri City, and they told him that was common in Escape transmissions. He put another tranny in, without altering the exhaust, and has not had problems since.
So I got 17 months and 18k from their work, along with significant run around and mis-information. The transmission did last their warranty period, but only half of what the Jasper warranty would have covered. I can't afford to replace the transmission every year-and-a-half. And they never called to let me know what discount they would give.

Tri City Transmission Inc got good marks across the board for everything. There's nothing I could say. They did what they said they were going to do, when they were going to do, what was promised and it worked. I got them through word of mouth recommendation and I would absolutely recommend someone else to take their car there. The staff was great. They answered all the questions and they were wonderful.
