Ended well. They were professional and nice to work with. In contrast to other electricians I contacted before trying Marty's, they were eager to help on this relatively small job and actually responded promptly to my initial inquiries. One electrician I contacted said they would come out at a certain time but never did and never contacted me afterwards. Another I spoke with on the phone was fairly obviously not interested in the work. But Marty's was responsive. Marty's would be recommended for those needing residential electrical work. I would use them again. There was some misunderstanding about the voltage of the generator which resulted in not all circuits on the sub-panel working, even though this information was provided before the work began and the generator itself told what it was. They did good but sometimes people get in a hurry and make assumptions. This required a slight tweak afterwards to make it work correctly.

Marty was responsive, professional, reliable, and he completed all the work properly in a timely fashion. It was easy to get him scheduled for the estimate and for the work. We called 2 other electricians, who are highly rated on Angie's List. One of them told us that it would take about 1 month to schedule an estimate, and 2 months to complete the work. The other electrician didn't return phone calls or text messages, requesting to schedule an estimate after I initially spoke to him on the phone.

Marty met me at a Kingsport address to look at a power pole at a mobile home that had fallen down.  The people that lived there were without power from Thursday afternoon (this was the next morning), and I had to act fast to be able to get their power back on.  I called several other electricians but I was most impressed with Marty.  He said that his crew was finishing a big project and said that he might be able to help me when that was finished later that day.  I told him that I was getting the pole put in later that morning and that time schedule would be perfect.  
Marty met me in Kingsport later that morning to look over the "damage" and see what had to be purchased in order to get the power back on.  He told me where to locate the pole to accommodate the existing power lines, and about the process of compacting the dirt around the pole very frequently when .installing the new pole.  He also pointed out the disconnect box on the pole had taken more damage and it would be necessary to replace it because the electrical inspectors would never accept it in the condition that it was in.
The tenant was concerned about getting the power back on, and Marty assured her that after they came out to the job, called the inspector, the power should be hooked up that afternoon.
Everything went as we expected, the pole was set, the electrician came and rewired the new box (that Marty had obtained), the inspector came out and the power company came back out and hooked up the power.  
I am very pleased with the professionalism and the responsiveness of Mr. Northrup and his son that made the whole problem easier.

Marty arrived promptly to evaluate the home and prepare a detailed estimate. He took his time answered lots of questions from a new owner of an and quot;Older Homeand quot;. Helped me stay within budget and respected my wishes to modernize the electrical system while keeping the charm and character of the house. In addition to a thorough inspection, they replaced almost every outlet in the house and made sure GFCII outlets were added where needed. Split up several crowded circuits. Corrected several incorrectly wired junctions and outlets. Added electrical outlets to 3 rooms. Added Ethernet/data outlet to office. Moved Cable outlet to opposite wall. Added/repaired outside sconce lights. Added wiring for patio ceiling fan. Added outside GFCI outlet. Moved a precariously placed bathroom light switch to opposite wall. They spent a lot of time in a tiny attic and crawl space! Marty's team was prompt, extremely polite, knowledgeable and tidy. They will definitely be coming back for kitchen and master bedroom lighting and fan updates.

He installed new breaker box. He was a subcontractor for our contractor, who was putting a vent in our kitchen.

The big surprise was that the JC Power Board bolted the breaker box to the wall. You wouldn't know that until all the breakers had been removed. Because the power had been turned off, the box was difficult to remove. He stayed very late to try to remedy the situation, working by flashlight. He was very concerned and conscientious.
He made sure that the Power Board and the City came out to do their inspections. Because the City requires smoke detectors outside bedrooms, also he also made sure I installed them so the City would pass us with inspection.
He gave us a quote before starting the job. We came to a comprimise on the cost of the job at the end because of the extra work. Usually, he says that he doesn't do quotes--people usually give him a job to do and then he charges them. Since he gave us a quote, he wanted to stick by it. However, the extra work of the removal of the breaker box (when they installed the digital meter on the other side) caused the cost and time to increase.
