"I'm happy you are pleased with your service. If there is ever anything we can do to better serve you please do not hesitate to call."
Now to what went wrong. I hired Trugreen lawn fertilization service in the spring of 2013 to manage some bothersome weeds thourghout the lawn of the one acre large property. The experience started well and I could see improvements in the lawn until late summer. I began to notice in Sept. 2013 there were large spots on my yard which appeared as though the lawn had been burned. I spoke to the tree and shrub technician about it, and he informed me that my yard technician had been fired recently. I called to cancel my lawn service at this time, but before this could happen, the owner came to my home to discuss the path forward on getting my lawn back to a healthy condition. He specifically told me to give him one year to see the effects of his service, and he would guarantee a much better looking lawn by that time. So I decided to continue with the service.
During the early spring, I could tell there were no weeds in the yard and even though the grass was dormant, the lawn looked as though it was going to flourish within a few weeks. And I was right, because as spring began to set in, the lawn began to green up and few weeds were aparent. Trugreen came out to my home for another scheduled treatment.
Within a week after this treatment, my lawn began to die off and there were large spots across the entire lawn which looked as though a dog laid down and lost all of its hair. There were large areas of dead grass that could be pulled up by gently scraping the ground with a shoe.
I contacted Trugreen and the owner came out to evaluate and discuss what happend. I told me this was due to a harsh winter, yet no other neighbors around me had any damage on their lawn (none of my neighbors pay for a weed control service). He told me the lawn had to be de-thatched and then new seed would need to be spread to initiate new growth. He would then deairate the soil to allow for additional growth.
It cost me over $500 in rental equipment and seed, not to mention a lot of free labor, to get my lawn back to a healthy state. It took about 10 weeks for the lawn to revive and it still has not recovered completly. I called in June to cancel my service and the owner is now sending my bill of $180 to a collection agency because I refuse to pay him for the services to help in returning my lawn back to normal. I have reported him to the BBB and have filed a small claiims lawsuit to recover the $500+ in expenses I incurred for the repair of my lawn.
I have pictures to prove it all.
MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO USE SOME OTHER SERVICE PROVIDER.
"[member name removed], I'm sorry that you had a bad experience using TruGreen. Unfortunately, our position remains the same concerning the problems your lawn experienced. Warm season grasses such as Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede, and Saint Augustine struggled after the harsh winter we experienced. As you observed lawns that do not receive treatment will often appear healthier during early spring because the hardy weeds that make up an untreated lawn are not as damaged by the cold weather. We wish you good luck and a green lawn in the future."
