J. Singleton Painting and Home RepairThe job was quoted and a time estimate of 3 weeks provided. Trying to get things done for my son’s wedding. After @8 weeks the job was still incomplete. Throughout the process John came into the house @3 times, mainly towards the beginning and after that just he talked to his guys in the driveway or by phone. He expressed his displeasure in the time it was taking every time I talked to him in the driveway and asked for money. Tile work was poorly done, grout not applied consistently nor were the surfaces cleaned well when complete. It took him 18 days to do a 5x5 shower with a small bench, Shelves in shower are over 6’ off the floor. Painting was poorly done in some areas and great in others depending on his worker. Sheet rock work and subsequent finishing was terrible, very poor quality. Vanity was ordered and installed incorrectly and the solid surface counter has a gouge in it put there by his workers. The list goes on and on. My log is over 20 pages long. We had to stop work for my son’s wedding after 8 weeks and they left for 3 days and left the area a mess. At this point I sent John a letter detailing what hadn’t been done, the defects and fixes that need to be made. At this point he basically abandoned the project. He refused to talk to me and would not answer phone calls or emails for a couple of weeks. He finally replied to my string of requests and said he wanted more money up front to finish the job. I asked for details on what he was going to do, who would be doing it and when it would be done. Based on his past performance and the low skill set several of his workers had coupled with his abysmal scheduling performance to date I thought this was relevant. He refused to provide details and said he would come pick up a check and probably have someone start the following week. Based on this I let him go. Now I have to find a competent contractor to come in and finish the job. Based on my experience I would recommend that you run not walk in the other direction if John Singleton Painting / Contracting is looking at your job.
