The Helpful Handyman/DeWayne Allen

DeWayne Allen, The Helpful Handyman in Hillsboro TN, is not recommended for any in-depth job as stated by our home inspector. Only minor repairs. On the structure that he worked on: the roofline and framing are not level so drainage on roofline is horrible & causes leaking (he doesn't know how to level a roof, OMG); the downspout backs up so the gutter water floods into the room as he did a bad job on that; 2 sets of French doors are crooked, don't close, have to be re-installed; large holes were left around the doors & water comes in underneath them; the doorknobs & deadbolts are backwards; the window does not open as it is blocked by too-large trim (and "his specialty is trim work"); the window leaks; and, other things are backwards and funky. In short, I have a train wreck because of DeWayne. You wish that he would just stop talking about the great job he's doing & actually show up to do the work. Every day. And just get it done. Not wait a week to begin, as the walls and framing need to be ready shortly for the roofer. Everything is a challenge for DeWayne. Part of that is that he doesn't drive a pickup truck. Has his materials delivered, and of course it comes late. He needs to hire workers but is too cheap to do so (though he tells you he is going to, and brings his son, who is not skilled labor), & doors are completely wrong. He obviously doesn't know how to install them properly, or he would have done so. He doesn't show up; he started the day that he was supposed to finish the job; brings no cleaning supplies; did not remove the roof as agreed, but we did; did not cover his work from the rain, but left us to do so; didn't do what he said he was going to do with plexiglass; it's obvious there is no preparation, so all of the issues that he complains about & that go wrong are his own lack of planning, research & follow-up; left our place a horrendous mess; does not put in a full day; the first day that he did, he wanted an applause; gives excuse after excuse; he tied up our family for 3 weeks with his delays, lies and excuses; he did one difficult thing right; he did not complete the job, left it with so many problems & was unwilling to fix anything; threatened to walk off the job twice when talking about the delays with him, and we needed it finished shortly for the roof be installed; is deceitful about his abilities and overstates what he can do. STEER CLEAR OF THIS.
