After several delays Mr, Hayes told me he would subcontract the mailbox to an independent mason. When the mason showed up (two hours late) my wife gave him the same description of what we wanted as we had told Mr, Hayes. Perhaps due to language issues, the mailbox was built nothing like what we wanted, Also, after the job was underway Mr. Hayes raised the price of the mailbox by 25% (saying it was because we wanted some stone in the mailbox-- but we had told him that from the first.) Because all we had was a verbal agreement, nothing in writing, and the job was underway I agreed to the 25% increase.
After the mailbox was rebuilt to look more like what we had asked for, Mr Hayes asked for final payment. I asked if he was still planning to return to affix the address plaques to the mailbox. He said he would after one week (to let the mortar joints dry.)
Well, after promising to come to complete the job on two different days and not showing up, the mailbox is still not completed. Even more upsetting is the disrespectful and arrogant attitude he has displayed since getting all of his $25,000+ payment from me. After ignoring two of my texts asking when he would come to complete the job, he finally texted me: and quot;Real men don't harass people with texts on Sunday night and all hours of the day...and quot; He was insulting and insolent.
While he did a good job on the driveway, I would never recommend someone who does not complete a job after being paid for it, and who first ignores and later insults his customer.
"I would have liked to hear this: Thanks Bill for turning out a perfect job because this work is amazing. You didn't raise your price after I changed my mind in the middle of the job too many times to count. You dumped 60 tons of dirt on your lot and loaded into your pick-up, you made trip after trip bringing the dirt to my house, so the dump trucks would not destroy the neighbors yard.Even thou I told you you could drive all over the neighbors property. Bill Hayes you were smart enough not to do that huge mistake I recommended you do. Then you finished the work ahead of schedule and never asked for one penny down. You financed the entire $24,000 demo driveway job paying for every spec of material up front using no credit. Also when it was to wet to work you came out and cleaned up so the place was presentable. When the $24,000 driveway was done, Bill you never called and wanted to get paid for it. Bill you waited until every bit of the (second) job was completed and even then I ( the customer) had to call you several times to come and get your money. I understand ,Bill, that you ran all over Nashville , Brentwood, Franklin, Gallatin, Smyrna, and others to locate a presentable match to the stones on my house ( that are no longer available). Also Bill Hayes, I have say the fact :I paid you to build a mailbox out of brick and set a price, Then I changed that order to a brick and 2 types of stone mailbox, Thanks Bill Hayes for only up-charging me the cost of the materials. And finally Bill Hayes as your customer I am sorry I harassed you late at night on Sunday. I am sorry that I asked you to do me some free-bees' After I paid you in full, mentioning the glorious review on AL I just posted. Never would I insist that you come do a bunch of free work (never discussed when the price was determined) . Bill Hayes I am an honest man and I would never ask you to do something dumb. Like for example: Bill Hayes, I wold never ask you to come and put dirt around my new mailbox in the rain or even 1 day after a week of rain. Also Bill Hayes, I as a customer of yours,I would never ask you to come and knock holes in my new custom mailbox with a hammer drill before the mortar is completely set up. No Bill Hayes, I understand that you are a Concrete worker and not a miracle worker."
