"Heard about this business this morning. Promptly received a call back asking about the project (replace mailbox and post). William promised to call back with estimate and did giving me 3 options. I picked one and he immediately gave me a price and said he could do it today! Made payment arrangements and by 2pm everything was done. Project was at my moms house in Tennessee and Iâ  m in Illinois so when he was done, he sent me a picture. Very pleased to have someone nice and reliable when Iâ  m so far away."

"Top notch! Gave reasonable quote with thorough description of what they would do to fix our problem. Set up time to do work, arrived with help in a timely fashion. Did work well with minimal mess, cleaned up well. Project turned out better than I expected, personable, knowledgeable, reasonably priced and timely. Am definitely planning to call Stafford & Sons again for several future projects we have coming up. Would highly recommend them to friends and all. They do a variety of different work. Not only talk the talk, but actually walk the walk. Right work ethic! Can't say thank you enough."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Pros of installing a skylight include the fact that you will get much more natural light in your home, skylights can make your room look bigger than it actually is, and your home may increase in value. Cons include difficult upkeep (you may have to get on a ladder to clean and maintain them), higher installation costs, and, potentially, too much heat gain from all the extra sunlight.

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.

Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.

Yes, you can install skylights on an existing roof, and it’s a common service that many homeowners opt for, especially on older homes built when skylights weren’t as prevalent. The installation process will be a bit more involved, and the design and planning process will take longer, meaning you’ll pay more to install a skylight on an existing roof than you would in new construction. The process involves cutting a hole in the roof, moving rafters, if necessary, and installing and sealing around the skylight.
