Pavers and Hardscaping Service, Interior Painting + 4 more
I originally contacted Craig Jackson with Dream Builders Construction, a.k.a. Creative Lawn Designs, to install a 6' privacy fence in the back yard of my new house build. He's quite the salesman and talked me into investing much, much more money in both his construction and landscaping services to achieve my dream home. Per his contract, he said it would take two weeks at most!!
The kitchen back splash, doggie door, and 6ft privacy fence were installed by Aaron and Brent. Their work was very professional and thorough and I was very pleased. From there, it all went down hill. They installed the french drain first, then the sprinkler system - without being connected to the water main, then the privacy fence, then the flower beds and mulch, then came back with a bob cat and took down sections of fence to regrade the hill and put boulders in for a retention wall, then redid the destroyed flower beds, fixed the fence (improperly), laid the sod, and finally the brick pavers and rain sensor. All the while, different workers are having to come back again and again to rework things that didn't get done properly, etc.
Throughout the job, Craig was telling me that he underbid the job and was losing money. To accommodate, I made concessions and reduced the scope of work by removing the flower bed brick borders, consenting to the sprinkler back flow valve being in the front corner of my yard rather than beside the house, etc. Craig is not to be trusted despite how convincing he can be. He doesn't adhere to the terms of his contract, nor does he answer phone calls or texts. He'll tell you anything and give you all kinds of excuses why his men can't or don't show up or why something was done wrong or is not working. In addition, per his contract, I was to put $5000 down - which I did - and was not to pay another dime until I was fully satisfied with his work. However, throughout the job, he kept asking for "draws" so he could pay his crew, etc. When I finally fired him and forbid him to come back on my property, I had already paid everything but $1100.
In the end, the sprinkler system works - but the rain sensor does not. The French Drain does not work and I still have a standing water issue on the side of my house. The retaining wall of boulders was not secured in the side of the hill and the soil under them is already eroding and starting to give way. The sod sat on the pallets in 100 degree heat for four days before being laid. Consequently, most of it was dead when it was laid so less than half actually took root. The pavers were not installed correctly. The bed wasn't dug down below the soil line so the pavers stand above the grass. The fence sections that were put back in place are spaced too far apart and not fully repainted. The flower beds look great though and the flowers/plants he purchased have done well except for one tree. It's important to note though, that I purchased $1000 of additional plants along with 6 additional bags of mulch and paid workers to finish the them.
The only reason I have as much landscaping done as I do is because of two workers that felt sorry for my situation and worked their butts off to make things as right as possible. Josh Caudill and Ron Gray were the workers that were continually coming back to fix previous work that was either incomplete or done incorrectly. I am very thankful for them.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND CRAIG JACKSON DOING BUSINESS AS DREAM BUILDERS CONSTRUCTION OR CREATIVE LAWN DESIGNS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
