William's team did a nice job of installing our pavers and steps in our backyard patio space. However, overall we were disappointed with our experience. William's prices are a little higher than average, and he claims that is due to a higher level of quality. Unfortunately, in our case the patio space was not level and everytime it rains we have multiple large puddles form (very slow to drain). So, I fear that I paid additional for nothing. The team did clean up after the project was completed. But, they placed all their personal trash (plastic water bottles, lunch wrappers and landscaping debris) into one of our trash cans, and left it for us to dispose. William quoted us a price for the project prior to starting work. At the time of payment, our actual expenses (relatively) exceeded the quote. I was fine with paying for the additional expenses- however very upset that he did not discuss the additional costs with me prior to doing the work. Ultimately, our experience with William was forever tainted when he (accidentally) drove over and damaged some of our irrigation equipment in our yard. Luckily our neighbor watched William drive over the equipment, because William originally denied doing the work. However, because we had a witness, he agreed to fix it..... But then attempted to charge us for parts and labor to do the repair. If you do decide to work with William, be sure to spell out all aspects of the work and expense. AND- watch them every minute to be sure that no damage is done and that they are not performing work outside the scope of the project.

Response from William B. Darnell Outdoor Living
We were brought in after the [Member Name] had attempted to do the patio/retention wall themselves. There was an existing retention wall and [member Name] had done the back fill to attempt to bring the space up to the level of the patio. The position of the wall and how it was placed in space made getting a perfect level/drainage almost impossible to achieve. That is what we had to work with and were not responsible for the poorly conceived wall and placement thereof. In terms of the accusation of me adding on cost, the existing construction had no common sense way to allow a transition up onto the patio. This required additional material to create. We gave the customer the material at cost and were very reasonable on the additional labor. The issue of our price being higher than average is patently incorrect. We are in the middle of the going rates for the price per square foot to install pavers. As to the controversy about the irrigation system, a critical valve array was located precariously close to the edge of the driveway which should never be done when installing an irrigation system. The driveway was narrow and curved. Someone had placed a piece of 4x4 post on top of the valve box as a makeshift marker creating a perfect scenario for crushing. Once when I attempted to back down the driveway. My trailer caught the edge of the piece of wood. and it crushed down upon the valve array causing damage. At the moment I did not know it had happened. It manifested itself when the system started up later. Given the combination of factors, I did not feel fully responsible although I made the very involved repair at no cost to the customer, and actually improved the system in the process. I can honestly say I did not detect such dissatisfaction from the customer at the time the final check was written. The irrigation had been fixed to [Member Name] satisfaction and she actually hired us to cap the retention wall she had constructed after the fact and gave positive feedback on that outcome. With all due respect, I feel the review is very unfair and 100% inaccurate. Each issue raised by [Member Name] was resolved.
