Reliable Builders LLC

In the summer of 2005, I hired Richard Horne of Reliable Builders, Franklin TN as the Genreal Contractor to add on approximately 600sf for a master bedroom and bath. The master bath was custom and included a freeform stand alone shower approx 5'x6', all tiled. The initial work was very good and we were happy with it. He received 24% of the total job cost as compensation. I counted on him to supervisse everything as I work full time and could not be there. In June 2012 I noticed that one of the 15x15' tiles in front of the vanity was starting to creak when I stepped on it. It got a bit worse and by the summer of 2013, another two tiles seemed loose to me. The bath needed a new painting and so I hired a handman to come in, paint and reset these tiles. When he took up the first tile, it was apparent there was a real problem. The floor underneath was very wet. We looked in the crawl and the floor directly under the shower had lost it's insulation- it had fallen to the ground, and the floor boards/ joist, were soaking wet! We tore up the floor, had to even remove the vanity, all of the shower and half way up the corner outside wall to expose the damage. When we got to the shower pan it was apparent that the tiler had installed it incorrectly. He had not wrapped it up the wall, and in several places had even cut the shower pan liner down to the floor boards! The pipes had so much concrete runoff that there was only about 1" openning. I called Richard right away and after first telling me he would come look, he never came and never responded to me again. I also asked him for the name and phone number of the tiler who put in the tile and he said he couldn't find him. I then found the paperwork from the initial construction and found the man in 20 minutes. I called and wrote to him, Dusty Baker, and he wrote back and said he always did good work and took no responsibility. The shower reconstruction cast us about $9500.00 -- $7700 for the tear out, new joists, new insulation, Kerby system, and $1800 for the tile. Richard Horne/Reliable Builders are not reliable and he does NOT stand behind his work . Do not under any circumstances hire this man.
