I can't describe how much I love Bending Chestnut Construction! I would recommend them to anyone and would absolutely use them again.
In this project, I both built a home for the first time and did it long-distance. Bending Chestnut was there for me every step of the way. They were helpful and very reasonable during contract negotiations, made great recommendations throughout the process to ensure that the home was exactly how we wanted it, were extremely responsive to our calls and emails, made any changes that we requested quickly and agreeably, and made this an outstanding experience. And to top it all off, they came in under budget! I hope to build another house someday and will definitely use them.
Thank you, Bending Chestnut, for a beautiful, high-quality home and a great home-building experience.

I had a leaky valve in my washing machine connector. It had damaged the drywall around the box in the wall. I hired Bending Chestnut to replace the box and valves and to replace and repair the drywall around the box. Drywall was replaced and painted.
They did a great, quick job.

We had a great experience with Bending Chestnut. Brent and Chris were tremendously helpful and professional every step of the way. We initially had a vague idea of what we wanted back in August 2012, and found them via Angie's List. Brent came out to give us a quote, and highly recommended we first obtain architectural drawings so we could compare apples to apples on estimates, and ensure we really knew what we were going to get. We hired an architect, and it was an excellent decision. Fast forward a few months, we asked them to come back and rebid on the job against two other companies. They were in the middle of the three, and we were most pleased with our interactions with them and confident they knew what they were doing. We officially started the job a week before Christmas 2012, and finished in late Feb/early March 2013
We had a draw schedule set up, with a partial amount remaining until the entire job was completed and agreed on. On the whole, I believe we only went over our estimate by less than 10%, and several of the additional costs were items we asked to add along the way. Truly, we can't say enough good things about them. All of the workers were professional and courteous; they cleaned up after themselves each day, which honestly I wasn't expecting since it was an outdoor job; Chris was regularly on the job site as the PM, not just showing up on day one and never returning. I was able to contact them via phone/email/text whenever I needed something, and they would promptly get back to me. The weather was apparently extremely wet last winter, which is totally out of their control, but they often would apologize for getting behind due to the rain and occasionally asked if we minded if they worked on a weekend day to try to make up lost time.
So what did they build? We have a small lot in an urban neighborhood, with alley access. We added a roof out of the back of our two story home to cover an existing concrete walkway/retaining wall area, a new side porch, and steps up to a completely new parking area. This parking area is a garage with three open sides (standard garage doors on one side for vehicle access). Sounds strange, but we love it (preserves sight lines and opens up the small yard). The entire new construction is completely covered, so we can park, walk down to the house, enjoy the porch, etc without the elements pouring down on us. Our yard is sloped, hence the need for steps and a complicated roof line/attachment points to the house. We had new lighting installed, the and quot;newand quot; back side of the house was painted, gutters installed with the new roofing, and concrete stained (existing concrete was already stained).
We finished the project a few weeks over the estimated schedule due to the weather, but could not be happier. When we were done, we said and quot;how often can you do a project and say at the end that it exceeded what you had in mind?!and quot; I will try to attach photos. Note - fencing and railings were done by another Angie's List company - see Prince's Fences, also a happy customer there.

The three companies we interviewed each gave us reasonably priced estimates. We chose Brent Fox, owner of Bending Chestnut Construction, because we found him forthright, easy to communicate with, and enthusiastic about our projects.

His crew was fantastic arriving promptly at 8am every morning, taking an hour for lunch, and working doggedly until 5pm when they conscientiously cleaned up each day. They had never installed an IKEA kitchen before (they are notoriously complex). I was thrilled when they took time to read the instructions carefully before installing each piece. They then cut and adjusted parts so that the kitchen fit perfectly! It was amazing. They did a marvelous job with the moulding and took great care to make ends meet seamlessly. They were incredibly flexible about changes we asked for as the work progressed. They helped us with design aspects as we went along and answered technical questions knowledgeably.

We paid exactly what we expected at the end of the project and Brent made sure we were completely satisfied with the work.

We really enjoyed working with Brent Fox and the great guys in his crew and would recommend them without reservation.
