Having gone to Lowe's in Dickson, TN on several occasions, I finally managed to pick out a counter top that suited my tastes and budget, then paid $75 to have their installer come out and take measurements. The quoted price for the counter top was $900 (plus) and $600 to have their installer install it. Installation was quoted at $600. 2/3 the cost of the counter top itself. This was from the start, without even having taken any measurements or seeing what they were getting into. $600 is an exorbitant amount to charge, considering that it takes less than 4 hours to do. Even if they're charging for driving time to and from the store, it comes out to $150 an hour. In any case, the gentleman came and took the measurements. At which time I explained my misgivings at having them do the installation as I felt the price was excessive. And that I can get a professional carpenter to do it for $20 an hour. Today, I got a call from the Lowe's representative, Patricia Heck, who explained to me that unless they did the installation, I would have to provide them with measurements to manufacture the counter top. In other words, the measurements that were taken on 13 November 2013, are proprietary to the contractor who came and took the measurements. In short, I spent $75 for nothing. Unless I have my carpenter take the measurements, I cannot order a counter top. As a consolation, they did offer to refund my $75 However, considering the amount of time lost in this process (which has been nearly a month) of picking out a counter top and arranging for them to come and take measurements, it is less than adequate and grossly substandard. Having concluded my conversation with Ms. Patricia Heck, I then called and spoke with the Store Manager, Mr. Lynch. He pretty much reiterated what Ms. Heck had told me. He was unyielding even when informed that I'd spent close to $30K in his store in the past 18 months. To say that I am less than pleased with the products and services at Lowe's in Dickson, TN is an understatement. I would strongly discourage anyone I know from doing any business with their store, and their corporation in general.
