We were awakened two mornings by vehicles passing on the private road no more that 20 feet from our bedroom window. The road is a rough, semi-graveled road with many potholes and leads to other cabins.The owner made it clear that it was unreasonable of us to expect to be able to sleep past 9 am on our vacation, and besides, since it's a gated road, everyone passing is "approved" to be there. Somehow that's supposed to make the lack of privacy OK. The hot tub was in full view of the road. Vehicles passed dozens of times while we were at the cabin. We were "on display" anytime we were in the hot tub. Additionally, the owner thought that we should be bothered by trash under the sofa, on the hearth, and on the kitchen floor.The decorative carvings on top of the cabinets, like all horizontal surfaces more that 5 feet above the floor, were caked with dust. That, too, was somehow supposed to be appealing to us.
