On 23 Dec I sent a text message to the Salesman 1 asking when the job would begin. On 8 Jan 2014, at our request, we met with Salesman 1 at our house. There was a question on whether we could relocate the vanity, shower, and tub in the remodeled bathroom so we had a meeting in the bathroom with Salesman 1, Salesman 2, my wife, and I to discuss. Salesman 2 as a former General Contractor was integral to the discussions of what could and couldn?t be accomplished. On 10 Jan, I texted Salesman 1 with our decision - we arranged for a meeting the following week to view the drawings with Salesman 1 and Salesman 2 at the GMP showroom. During this time the bathroom demo was proceeding.
During the month of Feb some prep work was done but there were delays due to the extremely inclement weather. A tub we wanted and ordered by GMP was brought to the house and the plumbing was mocked up. The tub had free standing fixtures that should have been ordered from the tub supplier but GMP chose to order the fixtures from another source which did not fit properly. The problem was the pipe length was too short to reach over the edge of the tub. I determined GMP failed to order the 7 inch extension pipes that would be necessary for the fixtures to clear the top of the tub. On 19 Feb, I printed out a copy of the required seven inch extension pipes from the web-site and provided GMP a copy.
I was beginning to get concerned about the timeline on the project due to a month long out of town commitment I had in March. I was assured the job would be completed by the end of Feb. At the end of Feb, with the job still nowhere near completed, Lead Installer 1 informed me he was leaving GMP and that someone else would pick up as Lead Installer when it resumed the end of March. By this time Salesman 1 was completely out of the picture and Salesman 2 had taken over, what I assumed, because of his heavy involvement in the planning phase, as ?project manager.? Lead Installer 1 assured me he had provided Salesman 2 and the General Manager all the dimensions of any needed materials to install upon my return.
At the time of suspension the shower was unusable because the corner seat top had been incorrectly cut too small which would allow water to get in behind the salita, a simple fix that GMP couldn?t make, so my wife had to continue to use the upstairs bathroom during my month long trip in March.
After returning from my month long trip, I contacted Salesman 2 to arrange for continuation of the project. At my suggestion, Salesman 2 and I met at the house on 1 Apr, to discuss what was still outstanding. Salesman 2 took 4 pages of hand written notes and told me he would get back to me with a start date. After not getting any response from him, I sent a text message to Salesman 2 on 5 Apr asking when they would start. He responded on Tuesday, 8 Apr, stating "Cutting salita to bring out. Will let you know today about schedule." I can't emphasize enough our dismay that despite having all the dimensions at the end of Feb, cutting of the stone wasn't done for over a week after my return from my trip and installed two weeks after my return. GMP did nothing to prepare for my return during the month I was gone.
After sporadic, hit and miss work on the project, I sent a text to the Salesman 2 on 16 Apr, asking for a definitive schedule for completion of our project. Extension parts I identified to GMP on 19 Feb, for the tub install were finally located and the tub was installed on 16 Apr, but the stabilizing bars for free standing fixtures were not installed. I notified Salesman 2 and sent him a picture of what the finished product should look like and what the actual install looked like. He stated they would have to try and find substitute parts but asked me to look around for the parts. I looked in the bathroom and was able to find the missing parts in a pile of trash in the bathroom. I also asked Salesman 2 about the body spray fixtures we had contracted for in the shower. With little explanation Salesman 2 said they would deduct that charge from the final bill because it was too late to install the body spray. This was one more of a continuing series of other failures by GMP to follow the agreed upon project plan. We had, during several meetings with our original Salesman 1, Salesman 2 and the General Manager, specifically ordered rectangular sinks and granite countertops. The installers arrived with oval sinks and salita counter tops. Because of the already extensive delays in the project we decided to accept the oval sinks and salita instead of the contracted for rectangular sinks and granite counter tops.
On the 21st of Apr, I texted Salesman 2 again requesting a schedule to complete the work and complaining about the top of the shower seat still not being fixed despite the problem being known since Feb. I informed him we were not happy with the lack of communication, lack of project coordination, and that our patience was running thin. I never received a response. On 26 Apr, the mirrors were installed and the corner ?garage door? cabinet was delivered. The mirrors were installed about three inches too high requiring the installers to return and remount. Salesman 2?s response when I sent him a picture of my wife standing in front of her mirror was, "Either [wife] needs to grow some or we need to fix it and I know that answer. That is high." We were told by the cabinet installers the ?garage door? cabinet was damaged and they removed the cabinet.
On Friday, 30 May, Salesman 2 texted, ?Will Tuesday or Wednesday [3 or 4 Jun] work to wrap up job?? Wednesday, 4 Jun, Lead Installer 2 arrived for some minor tasks. All this time we are discussing the outstanding items, e.g., the sliding drawer in the cabinets and the door covering the cubby in the shower. No further correspondence took place until Saturday, 21 Jun, when Salesman 2 texted regarding alternate knobs for the cabinets GMP had painted. At 10:04AM, Thursday, 26 Jun, Lead Installer 2 sent a text indicating he had everything to finish the job. Lead Installer 2 arrived on Monday, 30 Jun with the glass door for the shower cubby. We had originally selected in Jan a decorative aluminum panel to cover the cubby. When we were told it wasn?t available we said okay, just make sure whatever is selected is opaque. Lead Installer 2 showed up with a clear glass door which he had to take back to be frosted and installed on Tuesday, 8 Jul. While functional, this substitute door is not attractive and falls far short of expectations.
As for the aforementioned slide drawer, the installers apparently couldn?t fit the slide drawer at the bottom of the cabinet as it should be installed. After what appears to be several attempts to install it properly they decided the only way to make it fit was to install it above the bottom hinge resulting in the elimination of four inches of usable cabinet space. I made the necessary repairs to properly mount the slide drawer at the bottom of the cabinet. Also this drawer and the one above it were modified in size. Despite GMP installing three drawers of identical size, it appears GMP didn?t have the proper size drawers for this cabinet so they chose to cut the dovetail ends of and staple the ends together.
The Granite Installation Manager on a trip to the house acknowledged the poor quality of the work and said he was going to talk to Salesman 2 and the General Manager. The only response to that discussion was an e-mail from Salesman 2, ?If there are any other issues please let me know and if not when can we expect final payment. Thanks [Salesman 2].? I responded to Salesman 2 with an e-mail sta
