I was initially impressed with Mr. Bonds professionalism, and promptness. However, as the inspection and conversation went on we discovered he was a subcontractor. All of his expertise was at the expense of everyone else. He brought in an electrician, mentioned contracting out a concrete man , and ect. My husband and myself felt at this point , Mr. Bonds was relying on everyone in his supposingly field to do the entire job. If I wanted my home sub-contracted out we could have done so without the assistance of Mr. Bonds. Now we knew where the $38,000.00 fee he came up with and derived at. Mr. Bonds had to pay the and quot;piperand quot; so to speak. Also, the estimate he e-mail out to us was very unprofessional and poorly written. No break down of his fees. The estimate only stated what was to be done in a vague manner. We were not happy at all at this point. To add insult to injury, Mr. Bonds informed us he is a Fireman/working also for a major roofing company as a salesmans and as a contr actor. Now we are totally confused. What is this man's profession? We began to wonder if he was in between jobs of some sort. He goes on to tell us the roofing on not just our house, but the entire subdivision has major defects in them. A major lawsuit was on going with the manufacturer and the roofing was no longer available. Therefore, our roof was no longer available, and the only way to match our roof , he would have to tear off the entire roof and we buy a new roof. Ofcourse he could provide us with this new roof through the roofing company he works for. How convenient? Through research of my own, I have yet to find this ongoing lawsuit pertaining to damaged roofing in my area. We just figured Mr. Bonds was full of hot air and smoke. It still baffles us how Mr.Bonds figured or came up with a fee of $38,000.00 when home sales are going at a rate of $55.00 a sq.ft. these days. We guess Mr. Bonds is up to his old tricks, because we saw him canvassing our neighborhood the following day. He was going door to door knocking on our neighbors door soliciting roofing jobs.
Description of Work: The owner of Bonds Homes responded to my call right away. Mr. Bonds phoned myself the following day to schedule a sight inspection. My husband and myself explained what we wanted(an addition to our home) The addition was 12x16 expansion to a already guest bedroom. We wanted to add more closet space in that particular area. Mr. Bonds measured from exterior of home, looked at roof, and viewed exterior bricks on home.

Response from Bonds Homes
In response to the review my (Member name removed)(known to me as (Member name removed) and at this same address), first of all we didn't do any work for this lady - we only bid on the job which not only has the 12 X 16 expansion of the 1st floor, but also an upstairs attic area to make into a walk-in closet. To correct (Member name removed), I am not a subcontractor. I am a General Contractor and most GCs have sub-contractors that they use, especially on jobs like this that need to be bid upon. And yes, homeowners can sub out their own work and pull their own permits but most people trust a GC who has a license, insurance and reputable subs to do the work. They also would rather avoid the headaches that come with this type of work. As for the $38,000.00 she mentioned for the job, it was $32,625.00 for the total job. As per her accusation of a poorly written estimate, most GCs do not itemize where every penny is going since one area may come under bid but will compensate for another area that may go over. Remodels are not like spec houses that are built by the hundreds per year and are exactly the same. As a professional Fire Fighter, our shifts are such that we can do other jobs also. As a licensed General Contractor, I have heard from most of my clients that I am on the job more than full time GCs. At this time, construction is slow so I took on another job...you take on what you can to pay the bills. As per the homeowner's roof, there have been at least 10(ten) houses in her neighborhood where the roof has been replaced because of damage from weather, and no repairs could be done due to the type of shingles. While recently being in her subdivision speaking to homeowners about their roofs, how conincidental she had someone on her roof inspecting it. As of this date, there has not been any work on her roof nor any home construction. Anyone can go online to see where this roof has defects, and is no longer available, and their is in a lawsuit. As mentioned earlier, spec houses built over and over again are usually built by the cheapest subs so it may be possible to find a rate at the amount she states. If I have time, I will continue to help people get a roof for little to nothing. To reiterate, I have NOT worked for this woman and the names and the prices are incorrect. I am an honest and hard working man and have been a Fire Fighter for over 28 years and a General Contractor for over 25 years and have reputable subcontractors. I am not a spec house builder. I build custom homes as well as additions and remodels. I don't claim to be the cheapest but I do claim to be honest and do the best work we can. Sincerely, Steve Bonds, Bonds Homes

Contractor carefully explained each procedure that would be taking place. Demolition took place on schedule as well as concrete leveling for floor. Framing was fast and efficient. Window installation was delayed due to failure of correct shipment (not contractor's fault). Contractor was diligent in correcting the problem. Fireplace cut-thru was fabulous. Brick-laying on schedule; problem with hearth design but contractor made sure this was corrected. Existing windows and exterior door converted beautifully to archways that matched complete concept of sun-room. Beadborad ceiling installed efficiently. Custom-made mantle, desk, and window seats above and beyond our expectations. Excellent service in connecting heat/air to sun-room. Fortunately were able to use existing unit. 20 inch tile installed, 45 degree pattern--outstanding. Wood framing, mantle, window seats, desk, beadboard ceiling all stained--breathtaking. Contractor meticulous in details. Careful to continuously clean up debris, etc. as often as possible. Always called prior to arriving or to schedule other workers. Meticulous about having everything up to code and inspected properly. My husband and I had ideas on what we wanted our sun-room to look like. However, we weren't knowledgeable enough to understand the complete process. With the help of our contractor and his assistant we were able to design the room above and beyond our expectations. We took pictures of the entire process and we really enjoy looking at them and showing them to family and friends. It was a great experience and we're so happy with the outcome. We have already greatly enjoyed entertaining in the new sun-room and guests only have wonderful things to say. We highly recommend Steve Bonds!
