The replacement sashes are awaiting installation as we have wanted to clear the decks of previous repairs being done; and we wanted to paint the wood replacements ourselves. They therefore occupy a place on our breakfast area floor. No one else could match the original windows exactly. Since we are replacing some, but not all, windows this was a prime consideration. Schaefer had gone out of business in 2009 and were the manufacturers.
We particularly like the style and scale of the windows, down to that of the muntin bars. The only problem was that, for a while, it seemed that they were not going to be able to match the configuration, style, and scale of our existing muntins; and our existing muntins were twice as deep as the available depth in the replacement sashes (the only difference between our existing sashes and the new ones). The glass is inset slightly differently in the new windows. However, after a number of calls, they were able to provide matching muntins with the appropriate depth to work with the new sashes and we were on track.
The price is reasonable. They will install them later after they are painted. If you have Schaefer shop-built windows, check with Central Woodwork.
