John Moon was quick to quote and offered great value for this job.
Support from the Window Works staff at the office was reliable and good, great communication for the schedule and work.
The windows and installation team (led by Wayne) was meticulous with details, replacing significant hidden rot rather than covering over issues. They also took great care with forming and framing for the siding, going well beyond minimal requirements and making for a top quality job. This added significant time to the job but even so they persisted with this level of quality work to the end.
The work went on and on for nearly 4 months after they tore out the first window. The busted the trim work and left 1" gaps around the entire window, open to the elements. I contacted John and he was going to send someone else out to get it fixed.
After a week my son and I caulked the gap only to prevent water from entering the house. About a month later John called and wanted to pickup the balance of the payment. I invited him over and let him see that the work they had never been back or completed and I refused payment since the contract stated that no payment would be made until all work was completed. He assure me he would have someone on it within 3 days.
About 3 weeks later John called again and wanted to come by after the balance. Again I said "sure thing" and we set up a time for that same evening. When arrived he asked how I liked the repairs and I responded "what repairs, you guys have not been back since our last meeting. Again, he said he would have someone there the next week and would "watch over them" to make sure the work was completed.
The next week they did return. I was shocked to find that all of my wood window trim on that side of the house had been cover alum. sheet metal (the house is stow with heavy wood trim on all sides - appraised value of home 385,000). I flipped out. I was so upset that I did not even call him out of fear I would let it get out of hand on my part.
The next weekend I removed all of the metal from one of the windows and replaced all of the trim to match, as close as I could, the rest of the existing window openings. I kept a list of the materials I purchased and pieces of the trim so that I could give them to John so that he would know exactly what was needed for the remaining three windows. Then I called John and we inspected the last work he had done. I showed him what was expected as a minimum repair of the damages they caused. I told him that he had one more chance and that any meeting after the next would be done in court.
After holding his hand, giving him samples and a list of material needed, they still managed to screw it up again. When they did the repairs the final time they took it upon themselves to replace the wood samples I gave them with a near match plastic trim to "save me from needing to paint it in the future". Had they been worth the cost of the bullet I believe I would have shot them. I called John and asked what they were thinking and he said he felt it was better than what I had asked for and it was "almost" a perfect match to what "I had already done myself". He didn't get it that now I have three types of window trim on my house. Granted they are so close that perhaps nobody but me would notice unless it was pointed out but that is not the point here - the point is they all should match, at the very least on one side.
I deducted the cost of the needed material, including a gallon of paint, from the balance due. John was given two choices, accept it or take me to court for the total balance. he accepted the final payment with the deductions.
I have replaced the trim on the other three windows so they all match on that side of the house. I have also had the remaining 14 windows replaced by Window World - NOT WINDOW WORKS! Window World of Chattanooga damaged none of the exterior trim during their replacement and the windows look fantastic.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND WINDOW WORKS TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON!!!
After deciding to go with them, they came out and did a detailed measurement to get the exact price, I signed with them, and they came out 1.5 weeks later to install them. The installers did a great job and were able to meet my crazy work schedule.
I would definitely NOT recommend this company and have no intention of using them or recommending them to anyone.
When the kitchen windows were put in two years ago, two wonderful gentlemen came to the house to do the work. I don't remember their names, but they were very respectful, funny and worked hard. They cleaned up after themselves. There was not a nail or drop of caulk left behind. Because my siding was old a brittle, they needed to get a special tool (torch) to prevent it from cracking. One gentleman discovered this the hard way, he sliced himself pretty good on it. I freaked out but he just said it's part of the job. I had shutters on the house that I hated. They had to take the shutters down to put in the new windows. When the windows were in, they called me out to have a look. They were beautiful. The gentleman said all he had to do was put the shutters back on and they'd be out of there. I asked them not to because I liked it better without them. They took ALL of the shutters off of the house for me so it didn't look asymmetrical. Mr. Moon called later that day to ask if I was sure I wanted to throw away those shutters, they were in good condition. I said yes. He told me he'd keep them in case I changed my mind. It's been two years. I'm sure he's gotten rid of those shutters by now. But the mere fact that he offered to keep them for me in case I changed my mind speaks highly of this gentleman's character.
I gave his name to a friend of mine who used him for windows on his house. Mr. Moon @ Window Works of Chattanooga is and quot;good peepsand quot; and I am glad to have found him when I did. When the gentlemen come to do the windows and patio door, they will measure my front and back doors to replace them and the door from my garage to the yard.
Eventually, I will put new siding on my house. Unless something dreadful has happened and he has hired a bunch of thugs and laze-abouts, Mr. Moon will be the person I go to. I like to stick with a sure thing.
"The member's window job was started on 10-12-2010. The crew reported one of her windows had a cracked frame. We reordered the window on 10-14-2010. We received it from the factory on 11-09-2010. The member signed her completion slip on 11-11-2010.On her completion form she checked that her salesman was courteous, informative, and helpful; that the installers were courteous and satisfactory with their workmanship. She also checked that she would recomend Window Works to her friends and we could use her as a reference. She never mentioned about the number of days to complete or any other issues. There are times when either weather or a unanticipated issue can slow production.Since it has been over a year since we completed this job I am not sure what else caused her delay other than reordering her window. We make every effort to complete a job as close to the time estimated as possible."
