They rekeyed at lock at my house in the basement. I do not use this door very much because the stairs are too steep. When I went to open the door the lock just spinned around. Since it had been two months I would have to pay $80 plus Mike save for them to fix what they didn’t fix to be gone with. Also when I pulled up to the van and met the repairman he had been smoking marijuana. I’m retired law enforcement.

Rick's Lock and Key knows how unlock cars and make keys, and my ranking acknowledges that fact.  However, in my opinion, Rick's Lock and Key is fundamentally unprofessional and rude in their handling of customers, and after looking into the invoice and checking with AAA, we found that they are overcharging the customer through excessive tax charges.  The tax rate in Hamilton County is 9.25%.  Our invoice was for $263 but the tax charge was $36.08.  That amounts to a 12.1% tax charge.  I called and explained the error to Rick's Lock and Key, and when questioned about their billing practices, they explained that a portion of the invoice was paid by AAA but they were charging me tax on the entire transaction.  Problem is, even if you add the amount that AAA paid, they still overcharged the customer and when I tried to explain that to the folks at Rick's, rather than simply owning up to the overcharge and refunding us, we were arrogantly told that,, "We should have charged you even more taxes!"  We are filing a complaint with AAA, but wanted Angie's List users to be aware of this tactic and if you decide to use them, get a written estimate in advance and by all means, double check your invoice to make sure you are not being overbilled.

I sent an email, got a call back within 3 hours, and Craig (I think his name was) was at my door within 24 hours. I had been told upfront that the safe would have to be rendered unusable to be opened and I agreed to that. So Craig went to work with his pry bar and sledge.  It was a pretty tough little safe, but he finished the job with no trouble and even offered to carry the heavy safe to the garbage can for me when he was done. I hadn't even thought of how hard it would be to get it there on my own.
I was well pleased and would use Rick's Lock and Key again without hesitation. Also would recommend them to anyone who needed such services.

We locked ourselves out of the house during a tornado warning as we sought shelter; after the danger had passed, I called Rick's Lock & Key to request help. The dispatch was very friendly and professional and gave a time-frame. The locksmith, Paul, arrived timely, even driving through a terrible storm. He was professional and efficient. I would not hesitate to use this company again and would strongly recommend it to anyone in a similar situation!

I called Rick's Lock & Key in advance to compare prices and services with those offered by the local Honda dealer.  Although it took awhile waiting on the phone, they finally found they key and key fob that matched the 2011 Accord sedan and confirmed that they had it in stock.  They estimated 30 - 60 minutes, a charge of $75, and required that we bring both the car and our original key to their shop so their system could program the new key fob using the car's computer.  The price quoted was about $10 less than the local dealer for the same car.  I believe I spoke with "Randall".
When my wife arrived with the car about 2 hours later, she was met by "Randy" who turned out to be a wholly disatisfied, frustrated, disgruntled, apparently overworked and underpaid employee.  Randy was rude, short, dismissive, non-responsive and apparently very unhappy that we had come to their company to use their service or spend money with them.  My wife, who is about 10 times more patient than I am, said that on several occasions, she came close to simply apologizing for having bothered Randy with our business and leaving and going elsewhere.  Howver, she bit her tongue and bided her time thinking that maybe Randy was just having a bad day.
However, we then learned that the quoted $75 charge was NOT for the key and fob as explained to me over the phone, but only just a backup key.  She was told, "If you want the key and key fob, that would be over a $100".  Since I was in a meeting, she just went with the $75 key because that's what I told her to expect.  Whether this was Randy not wanting to program the fob, or was a bait and switch approach, I do not know and can't say for sure.  But I can say for sure that I spoke at length with Randall and I did have my facts right on the front end, and that those facts changed by the time my wife arrived with the car and the key.  In the end, their charges were higher than what I was told that the dealership would charge.
In short, we received very poor if not failing customer service at a cost higher than what the dealership would charge.  Unfortunately, based on one very bad experience, we will not be able to return to, use or recommend Rick's Lock and Key going forward.  Apparently, they have more business than they know what to do with.  The one positive thing I can say is that the key they made does in fact open the door and it does start the engine.  Unfortunately, since that's what they are in business to do, that should not be enough to get them a passing grade, at least not in my opinion, and certainly not based on how conducted themselves and interacted with the public.
