The person that answered the phone when I called to make an appointment couldn't have been nicer and set the tone for how the entire experience would be. Because I watched so many Youtube videos and had an idea that the slow drying time and lack of lint could be signs of just how bad things had become, I was pretty nervous by the time Tommy got here. He set me at ease right away although we were both shaking our heads at what he found. He was polite, kind, and professional. I need to say too that Tommy came with everything he could possibly need, even including lumber and an electric saw that he would eventually need for our repair. When he opened the door to his truck, it looked like an entire hardware store in there ! With what he found, it was a good thing he had all that stuff ! Although the birds were definitely a problem, had it not been for them, we might not have known (until it was too late) just what a dangerous problem we had ! It turned out that the metal pipe that comes out of the wall where you attach your hosing from the machine was not connected correctly (if at all) inside the wall. It was extremely loose. It would have been nice had the big box store that installed our dryer had mentioned this. Because of this, lint was going into the wall ! Tommy cut away a small amount of drywall around the opening, cleaned out all the lint there, installed a new pipe properly, and installed a cover to cover the hole around the pipe. He also built some type of wood support for the pipe inside the wall so there is no chance of it becoming disconnected again. He also removed all the lint from the back of our machine where it had also been accumulating. I learned that the flexible silver colored paper accordion piping was extremely dangerous. This was frustrating because it was what the big box store brought with them and installed when the dryer was delivered. Tommy replaced it with a "Wizard Flex" which can withstand heat of up to 662° ! He removed our old one which was full. As for the birds, thankfully although we both initially thought we heard movement, none were found. But they had most definitely been there and probably for a long time. We had only been using this dryer for about six months and not even every week so a lot of what was found had been there before we ever lived here. Yuk. Anyway back to the birds - TONS of nesting material was found - sticks, grass, and lots of disgusting smelly, moist stuff. No wonder the inside of the dryer smelled so horrible after being closed for a few weeks. Because no air was going through the vent, because of the faulty installation of the pipe I mentioned earlier, there was nothing to stop the birds from coming in as far as they wanted to. Therefore, Tommy had to attack the problem from the inside as well as the outside. Once all the lint was removed from the wall, he taped over the opening so nothing disgusting would get in the house and spent a great deal of time making sure he got all of the bird mess out. The birds had been able to go the length of the piping from the outside which was about 15 feet and then a 90° turn down to the machine which was probably another 9 feet or so. I was blown away at how much stuff Tommy got out of there ! Initially we were fearful the birds had gotten in the wall, but thankfully that was not the case. Tommy disinfected the length of the piping, installed a pest-proof vent cover on the outside, finished up inside, and hooked everything back together. He cleaned up after himself and not a bit of lint was left on the floor in the laundry room and not a bit of nesting material, etc was left outside in our driveway. There was absolutely no residual odor ! I have done six loads of laundry since the work was complete and each one has been dried completely after one run and there has been the appropriate amount of lint in the lint catcher. By the time Tommy had arrived to do this work I was extremely stressed out. I am so appreciative for the great work Tommy did and considering all the work involved as well as the time it took (about four hours total), his pricing was extremely fair ! I highly recommend him. I also strongly urge you if you are sitting on the fence about having a professional do this service for you to hire them ! We are incredibly fortunate we had not had a fire ! God works in mysterious ways and I think those birds set off the alarm and Tommy made it so we have nothing to worry about going forward !
