The DVM and assistant were very caring and capable, as well as knowledgeable. Two issues reduced the rating overall. First, there was an omission of a charge, and I received a bill for services after the office visit, which I paid. Second, apparently I was not given medicine to actually treat the infection, but did have meds to relieve symptoms. When symptoms returned, I went back and was given a prescription, without an office visit charge, and it took away the infection.

My husband and I brought our dog into Animal Clinic East (DBA Animal World) on a Sunday at 5:00 p.m. who was having trouble breathing through her nose. She is a regular patient of East Brainerd Animal Hospital but we were afraid that she needed attention before their clinic opened in the morning. We were on our way to take her to a well-known after hour’s emergency clinic in town, but we saw their outdoor sign as we passed (Animal Clinic East) that stated that they didn’t charge for weekend/emergency visits and going to save us about 10 miles, so we decided to stopped in. We saw Dr. Ashley who did a “routine exam” ($52) and recommended lab work to make sure that her blood was clotting correctly, to which we agreed. Dr. Ashley said that she needed to be sedated to look up her nose, but since it was after 5:00 p.m., he could not do it that day and suggested we take her to our regular vet in the a.m. We totally agreed and our goal of knowing if she was safe at home for the night had been answered and we felt we would already have the lab work needed for her morning visit. To our shock, our bill was $363.90. Yes, we should have asked before we agreed to the lab work, but we have had lab work done on this dog many times since she is has Addison’s Disease and have paid less than 1/3rd of this charge. I understand that Dr. Ashley had different lab work done, but I do wish that he had mentioned beforehand how much THIS lab work would cost!!! The worse part was when I mentioned it to our vet this a.m., they said the lab work was totally unnecessary so now I feel like we were sold services just to generate income for themselves. Poor business practice and we will never darken their doors again!

Pet died within hours after operation was performed. My research shows that she was released too soon after a major surgery. Wish I would have done my research before I used them.

The ladies who were grooming that day were wonderful. My puppy had been groomed some at home but had never been to a groomer and was skittish of clippers. They were patient with her and did a fantastic job. Her face (which was my biggest concern and had never been successfully clipped) is adorable. While she was happy to see me, she did not appear stressed. I will certainly be taking her back in the future.

Went very well. Dr. Craven is very knowledgeable and professional. He provided all information needed both before and after surgery. Surgery was more extensive than originally planned but provider stayed with the original estimated cost.

My 11 year old greyhound had been to another vet who diagnosed her with arthritis and gave her Prednisone and Tramadol. After a week of the meds my dog was worse and had lost 5 lbs. Since greyhounds are naturally thin, a 5 lb loss is a lot!
I polled the Chattanooga Greyhound Facebook group and asked for vet references and Animal Clinic East came up more than once and Dr. Leonard was personally recommended as a greyhound savvy vet. We went to Animal Clinic East on Gunbarrel and saw Dr. Molly Leonard. After blood work and urine analysis, there was still no definite diagnosis, but Dr. Leonard had a suspicion that the combination of medicines she was on may have caused an ulcer. She took her off of the current medicines and prescribed Carafate and Pepcid along with a bland diet. In a matter of days my dog had life back in her.
Two weeks later we did a follow up visit. My dog had only gained one pound back and was still lame in her back end. Dr. Leonard started her on Deramaxx and she started to show signs of improvement over the next few days. With this type of illness sometimes there are no clear signs and we depend on the vet's knowledge to rule out what it's not and treat what they think it is. Dr. Leonard was conservative in the testing. She did a CBC and urine analysis, and not bunch of costly test and xrays. While there is no cure for her condition Dr. Leonard has made sure that she is comfortable.
Dr. Leonard and the staff were very friendly and professional. I am new to the area and I had to depend solely on the referrals of my fellow greyhound friends and I am glad they recommended Animal Clinic East on Gunbarrel in Chattanooga, TN !

Mistakes and oversights are human nature, but to profit off those and make an otherwise healthy little dog deathly ill and with possible compromised health the rest of his life is unethical.
1st Visit: ($270) Took dog because he was moping around and the only doc was Pilkington. The dog was not deathly ill. The dog was sedated for a back x-ray. He was either given too much or had a reaction. He was taken from the clinic about 6:00 and the dog was visibly and quot;drunkand quot;, however, we were told to give him pain and other meds as there was a mild back problem diagnosed. Nothing was said about being sure he was totally alert. These were to be given with one of his favorite snacks at 11:00. He was still a little groggy. The next morning he was found barely alive as he had aspirated and had sever pneumonia.
2nd Visit: ($850) He was rushed to the vet and immediately, Dr Ashley diagnosed the problem and said he probably aspirated the meds. I was in pretty constant contact with Dr. Ashley for the next several days and he was very compassionate. On the 3rd day it was decided that he would probably not recover. I was literally on my way to have him put down when Dr Ashley calls and say his breathing is a bit better. Seems Dr. Ashley had conferred with Dr Cravens who suggested heart meds to help reduce the stress put on his heart due to breathing problems. He comes home the next evening, but doesn't eat again for a few days. The dog is very, very ill. I wondered if they just sent him home to die. Cravens calls after being out of town. He wants to see the dog.
3rd Visit ($250) Cravens examines him and gives him vitamin B shot. He starts eating and breathing much better. They think there may be some long term heart damage. Meds would run about $60 a mon
Would go back to Dr Ashley only. He could confer with Cravens who owns the place. After talking to other vets about the situation, I was advised they either reduce the charges or if they think it is their fault, they don't charge anything.
Talked to Cravens about reducing the charges and after lengthy conversation, he came up with an $84 reduction. Almost an insult. Now I have a compromised dog.

I suggest to all my friends that have animals to go to Animal Clinic East. I would never think of taking my pets to any other vets office. With the staff being so caring and educated, I wouldn't feel safe about putting the care of my animals in anyone else hands.

I take my five frisky dogs to see Dr. Ashley exclusively, he is a wonderful vet, loving, caring, and very good with the animals. He is very personable, takes the time to talk to me about whatever issue I have with my dogs. I have rescued dogs, and I have no idea what their history is, and they all bring their own issues. He is very patient, and no matter how many questions I ask, he is always very happy to answer them all. The hours that he is open at the Animal Clinic, fits with anyone's schedule, because they open early, and they stay open late.

As always, a good experience. I have been using these folks for about 8 years now. This is my 2 Cents: Frequently business owners who care about the quality of the services they provide invest in their employees and in their physical business. That is the case at Animal Clinic East on Gunbarrel. Nice, well maintained clinic with plenty of available information available for clients interested in appropriate pet care. The employees always appear happy with each other, upbeat and desirous of taking care of the pets and their owners to the best of their ability. This speaks of good management and hiring practices.
I have worked primarily over the years with Dr. Ashley, Dr. Morgan (at the downtown clinic) and Dr. Leonard. All three of these practitioners have heart combined with skill that they bring with them to the exam room every time I have brought one of my pets in for services. Over the last 8 years or so, they have seen my family through the loss of two cats and a dog, and the adoption of four other dogs. These three docs have tremendous compassion and dedication and I would recommend them (and have) to anyone.
This place doesnt charge discount pricing so dont look for it here. But neither do they provide discount services. As with anything you hope to get what you pay for, and at Animal Clinic East you do indeed get the superior services you pay for. My pets are worth it.

She is very, very good especially with cats. I have a cat with a chronic mega-colon. She was knowledgeable and able to give her an enema. She was very caring with the cat. She also treats dogs. I don't remember the price but good vet care is never cheap, but it seemed like it was in line with prior vets that I had been to. The rate is reasonable. It is the most price for the quality. I've been to see her a number of times from July to December of this year. The office is very clean and modern. There is plenty of room in the waiting room and we can spread out which is a big deal when an animal is upset. If I call with an urgent matter, they call me back the same day. I absolutely plan to continue using them.

I have used this clinic for over 8 years. I have 3 labs, one of which has an illness that averages a lifespan of five years. My lab has reached the age of 11 years old! Dr. Craven and the staff have been outstanding in their care of my dogs. Dr. Craven is always up to date on all the new medications and procedures that can be offered to animals to maintain good health. I can not say enough great things about the clinic! Always professional, always going above and beyond in the care of your pet and always being available to you when you need assistance.

Dr. Pilkington was great! I had just adopted a 4-month old puppy, Molly, from McKamey and she would not stop vomiting for the first day I had her. The staff at Animal Clinic East were very friendly and caring and I was able to get Molly in to see them that day. Both the tech and the vet got down on Molly's level to make her feel comfortable before putting her on the exam table. They were very professional and courtesy to me when explaining what may be going on with her. After getting her treatment, I brought her back to the clinic for all her vaccinations. She also got a cold later and I brought her back to make sure that she wouldn't get a respiratory infection. All of this happened in the first month I had my puppy (who knew puppies could get sick so often)! Molly started to feel much better so I canceled her last follow-up appointment. Dr. Pilkington called me that night to say he noticed that Molly hadn't come in. He said that he was glad she was feeling better and wanted to make sure that I looked for any symptoms that would warrant her coming back in the next few days. I was blown away that he not only remembered us, but that he really wanted to make sure that Molly was okay. I would recommend Animal Clinic East and Dr. Pilkington to any pet owner. These guys really love animals!

Surprisingly well. I feel that this clinic cared about me AND my dog, they were patient and explained everything throughly. They also called several times in the week after we went home to make sure everything was okay, which it was. I was a little in shock at first, but this was a positive experience and we will be taking out other dogs in for regular care, too.

I found them on Angie's List with glowing recommendations from animal owners whose pets they saved or treated with great caring. I went by the facility to walk around and it looked clean, neat, and well run. Plenty of seating, parking, and examination rooms. Several veterinarians and plenty of support staff. I called for an appointment and was scheduled quickly. I was told at that time that as a new patient I would have to pay part of the fee prior to the visit, with the balance after the visit, which I found unusual but not unacceptable. Before I go off I will say that I was later told that the vet I was scheduled to see had an emergency visit and that is why I had to wait so long. However, if there was an emergency visit you KNOW it's going to take a long time and I could have been seen by an alternate vet much earlier than I was. I wasn't told of the emergency until well into the visit when my attitude and my pets' had already deteriorated. We arrived early to fill out paperwork as requested. At this point I found out that their cost for examination and vaccinations was $88 per cat! This is way higher than I have paid for a single cat anywhere I have lived. However, I was there and it needed to be done, so I did it, but blew my monthly budget and am now living on Hot Pockets and water. We sat for over 30 minutes before being called into the exam room. I informed the Vet Tech that one of my cats behaves badly at the vet and that she should be examined immediately after coming out of the cage and not made to wait too long. It just gets worse. The Tech gave the preliminary exam with no issues. She then asked if we should move on to the second cat. I said "no", that we need to complete the first cat quickly and back into the cage to avoid incident. She left to get the vet. We sat for ANOTHER 20 minutes. When she returned to see how it was going I let her know that the amount of time we were waiting was going to cause issues with this cat during the exam and with my work schedule. This is when she let me know that the vet was working on an emergency case. We waited another 5 minutes or so and an alternate vet came in. The first cat was examined and vaccinated with only one bite (to ME). The second cat was examined and vaccinated without incident. The bite could have been avoided with better planning by the staff. I told them don't take the first cat out until you are ready to complete her. They didn't listen. The vet I did see was friendly and thorough. She explained each vaccination and the method of injection to alleviate any fears I had regarding tumors. Very nice lady and I am overall very satisfied with the veterinarian services. I'm not sure if I will go back again. I'm sure the scheduling will probably work out better the second time when there is no emergency visit. But the price is just too high. I am not recommending them to my senior citizen mother who is on a fixed income and has two cats.

We could not be more pleased with all the services provided at Animal Clinic. Dr. Craven is especially accomplished at his craft. We have had occasion to use the services of other veterinarians at Animal Clinic and we have received excellent care for our two dogs from all concerned. They are expensive, but it is worth it to know that you are receiving the best care.
