Upon arrival the attendant behind the counter was less than thrilled that someone had even walked through the door, from there it was one word answers, and exhausted sighs when he had to get up to go look for my reservation information. I was "encouraged" not to "get in a hurry" about calling at the time suggested during the phone call earlier that day to check on it, and left thinking "he must not like his job much, or people for that matter".
When the truck was done, they quoted me a rather expensive price, then when I found someone to do it for half that much, they charged me $20 for someone to pump gas in it because it was "less than a 1/4 of a tank" (mind you the truck barely ran because the transmission was going out, hence the purpose for my trip, but there was enough gas in it to do what was needed) so I paid $30 for $10 in gas, and another $40 for the diagnostic check plus taxes, fees, etc....
My total was $82!!!
I feel like after explaining to them that we were new to the area and had just purchased a vehicle that we found out later had this problem and didn't have a personal reference for a "local transmission guy", they took advantage of that! I trusted them because of the well known name of the company, and I don't speak ill of a company lightly, but I will never go back to AAMCO.
Instead, I took my business to Hi Tech Transmissions down the street where the service was friendlier and the cost was cheaper.

"Thank you for posting a review. All reviews help tell me where we need improvement. As far as your vehicle is concerned, we have a sign posted on our front counter that says: “There will be a $20 charge if we have to put fuel into your vehicle. This charge is on top of the cost of fuel. Please make sure your vehicle has 1/8 tank of fuel.” Unfortunately we had to implement that program after so many customers would bring their vehicles in empty. In order to properly diagnose a transmission, we have to drive the vehicle. In some instances, we have to drive a long way to get the transmission to duplicate what the customer has told us it is doing. And the fact that we don’t know how many gallons of fuel are left in a vehicles tank and whether or not the fuel gage is accurate, we make sure there is at least an 1/8th of a tank. The last thing I need is for one of my technicians to get out on a test drive and run out of fuel. When our technicians have to stop and buy fuel, it is on average a 10-15 minute stop. So we put $10 of fuel in the vehicle and charge a $20 fee. Just to let you know, since we have implemented this policy, you are only the 4th person that we have had to charge. Prior to the policy, I would have at least 3 vehicles a week come in on empty. I have spoken with the person you encountered about improving his attitude when greeting the customer. We do charge $39.99 to inspect the vehicle. If we do any work on the vehicle, then we wave the fee. Again, I apologize for your unpleasant experience. It is my hope that you will allow us to work on your vehicle again. Sincerely, Thompson P. Pettway Owner"

Being a single mom, I've become rather "wary" when I have car trouble due to past experiences I've encountered. I greatly appreciate the care and professionalism that I was shown at this shop. I have a 2000 Mazda 626 that needed a rebuilt transmission. We came to this conclusion after extensive testing. Because the engine is in good condition, we decided that it was a good investment for my car. I would highly recommend this shop to EVERYONE! They are absolutely fantastic!
