"The homeowner received his "Lifetime Warranty" the first time, however, because he didn't understand that the Warranty is prorated after 10 years, we gave him the Non-Prorated version. I paid for the upgraded warranty and got a complaint, not exactly a good deal for me. It really makes me sad when people don't call and ask me, but rather rush to complain. As a business owner I strive for transparency, it is easy to get my cell number and discuss any issues you may have, rather than rushing to complain."
Roofing - This was by far the best part of the work performed in terms of quality and workmanship. There really is nothing like a Sparkman roof that I have seen (a lot of roofs were replaced last year due to hail damage). It looks great, the ridge vents improved the overall look of the roofline, and they paid attention to all the fine details such as matching the color of the vents etc. My one qualm is the scheduling. It seems like it took a long time to get the work scheduled, and then they kept moving the date. Then they literally gave me one days notice before they came to do the work.
Gutters - The gutter installation quality was good. Unfortunately they ordered the wrong color. They showed up one night to do the installation without warning, and we were away from the house while the work was being done. When we got home it was dark, so I didnt notice the color difference until the next day. Instead of removing and replacing with the correct color, they offered to paint the gutters and cut me a good deal on painting the soffit and fascia. All in all I was satisfied with this solution but again, not happy with the scheduling aspect (suddenly turning up to do the work without notice).
Aluminum wrap - This was the least satisfying part of the work. The subcontractor who did the work did not do a very good job in my opinion. They did not remove the old wrap from around the windows and opted to install the new wrap over the old wrap. The bending and forming of the wrap, and the sealing were ok but not great. They did a sloppy job of nailing the wrap. The original wrap was installed during a window installation and the nails were well hidden by the window installers. The Sparkman subcontractor made no attempt to hide the nails, so the overall finish doesnt look so great. Additionally, they installed wrap on the garage door with visible nails, and did a poor job of installing the weather strip molding over the wrap. I had to remove the weather strip molding and reinstall it myself to make it look decent. They also didnt seal it, so I had to do that as well.
All in all my results were mixed. I'd have them install a roof any day. However, I would probably not use them for any other type of work on my home in the future.
Sparkman Roofing. In early April, Damon came out and looked at my roof and house and the estimate from my insurance company. He went back and forth with State Farm and got some more concessions from them, and the workers came out and did my roof in May. It was sometime much later in the year (August or later?) that they were able to come out and do my gutters. It was even later in the year that they finally replaced the screens on my windows (something that Damon had to convince State Farm to give me). We finally closed the job in January 2013.
I noticed that another reviewer complained about how long it took to get things done. I somewhat understand that complaint, but I believe that a lot of the delays were due to Damon working with State Farm to get the best deal possible for me. I also think that Sparkman has a really good local reputation so they have a lot of work. A couple of times, crews showed up at my house rather late in the day b/c they'd been working somewhere else. Once, I had left town (it was 4 on Friday afternoon) but Sparkman was always polite and willing to work with me to reschedule.
Further, they gave me an upgrade on the shingles I had to architectural shingles without charging me more, and they upgraded the gutters from the ones they were replacing for only an extra $160 (in addition to the insurance deductible). They also worked with me to reconfigure the gutters to help with the water flow around the house.
Every worker that came to my house was polite and I never felt unsafe or wary of the people sent by Sparkman roofing to do work.
While it did take about 10 months for the whole project to be complete, I appreciate the fact that I had my roof for months before I was asked for any money. That way, I knew the work didn't just look good (it looks great!), but it's also quality work.
I would recommend Sparkman Roofing to anyone who needs work done.
"Thank you, it was a pleasure working for you. I hope you will call us when you have a need for Heating and Cooling, Plumbing, Electrical, and any other Roofing or Remodeling needs."
"We've done repairs in the past, and so often you don't make a lot when you try to help someone with such small issues. And when you fix something small on a home, you often assume the responsibility of the shotty work by the builder in that area. And it makes you re-think helping people out on the small jobs. However, this man solidifies my resolve to help them. It is nice to be appreciated. Thank you sir for your review."
"We are bound with how fast or how slow an insurance company responds to our invoicing, and because of the amount of claims coming in both winter and spring, State Farm was moving very slow. Up to this point we have not even been paid entirely for the roof, and we usually only proceed once the roof has been paid in full. However, I moved forward in order to expedite the work and completed his Gutters, siding and fascia. In addition, we've been calling the member for final payment, to no avail. And after giving him every upgrade on his roof, leaving him with the best looking roof on the block, for absolutely no out-of-pocket cost, and to receive this (less than flattering review) instead of final payment, is a little un-nerving."
"Member, I am glad to do a good service for you. And even more proud to give you an architectural roof. It really breaks my heart to have to put a 3-tab shingle on a home, and if it were up to me, I would outlaw them. Take care. -John Sparkman"
"These are hard times, and I pride myself in that I, as well as everyone of my guys, will tell you honestly if you need a new roof, or if it needs to be repaired. We will continue to do so, and we will continue to do repairs (roofing companies that repair roofs are getting more and more scarce). Honesty is our policy. -John Sparkman"
"Thank you so much for going the extra mile for our review. I would gladly work for you again! -John Sparkman"
"THE JOB LASTING 5 DAYS IS FALSE. WE WERE NOT ABLE TO START THE JOB ON TIME AND SO THE HOMEOWNER IS INCLUDING THIS IN HOW LONG IT TOOK TO FINISH THE JOB. MY ROOFING COORDINATOR AT THE TIME DID NOT MAKE IT OUT TO THE JOB IN TIME TO GET THE PLYWOOD ON THE PLANTS AND WAS FIRED FOR THIS SPECIFIC JOB. HOWEVER, PLANTS WERE COVERED ON THIS PROPERTY. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU COVER PLANTS AND ITEMS IN THE YARD, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE BROKEN ITEMS. SPARKMAN CONSTRUCTION HAS ALWAYS REPAIRED ANY FIXTURES THAT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED DUE TO ROOFING. WHICH IS, INCIDENTALLY MAJOR RECONSTRUCTION. SPARKMAN CONSTRUCTION DID 500 ROOFS IN 2006, MOST EVERYONE WAS VERY PLEASED AND EASY TO WORK WITH. THIS PERSON WAS SIMPLY NEUROTIC. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE MOMENTS WHEN SOMEONE DROPS THE BALL WHEN DOING SO MUCH WORK IN ONE YEAR. STORM CHASERS CAME INTO THE AREA AND LEFT A LOT OF HOMEOWNERS VERY UNHAPPY.MY COMPANY ON THE OTHER HAND GAVE SPRING HILL WHAT THE BUILDERS DID NOT GIVE THEM, A BETTER ROOF. FURTHERMORE, SPARKMAN CONSTRUCTION DID ALL DAMAGES FROM THE HAIL EVEN THE SMALL REPAIRS, LIKE SCREENS AND POWER WASHING DECKS. ON THE ISSUE OF NAILS, ALL OF MY CREWS CARRY MAGNETS, AND MY ROOFING COORDINATOR CARRIES ONE AS WELL. HOWEVER, IF THIS HOMEOWNER FOUND A NAIL 4 WEEKS LATER, SHE WOULD'VE BLOWN HER STACK. I WARN ALL COMPANIES ABOUT DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS PERSON."
"Thank You for such a nice review. You were very pleasant to work with. By working with the insurance companies numbers, rather than low-ball with a bid, we were able to make sure that your bid was not underbid by the insurance company. If I had to underbid an insurance company on the work, they would be back within a few years picking up wind blown shingles again... Instead, because the member was forthright with me on what the insurance company paid, so I upgraded her roof, and took the stress off of her, completing all damage repairs. Thanks again. Sincerely, John Sparkman"
"Member, I enjoyed being in your employ. You and your family were quite pleasant, and seemed more like friends than clients. It's the personal connection that I enjoy so much about this business. Quite frankly, I think that's why I give such good deals. I care about my homeowner's like they are my own neighbors, like they are my family. Welcome to the "Sparkman Family," and I'm here when you need windows, gutters, or any other home repairs. Thanks member! -John Sparkman"
