We built our home back in 2005. We did everything we could to build the most energy efficient house possible. The house is built out of ICF and we sprayed in closed cell Styrofoam insulation above that. You cant get anymore well insulated than we are. We felt we may as well go all out and install a geothermal heat pump too. We approached Refrigeration Service of Blountville at a home builders show. They seemed to really have their act together. We spent close to 30k (home is 10k sq ft) on the system with them. They gave us a 10 year warranty on the system. When the rough of the HVAC started, I was very detailed about where the duct-work should go in the ceiling of the basement. We wanted as high of a ceiling as possible. When the rough in was completed, I can out to the house to inspect it. The HVAC guys had ran the duct right down the center of the house, exact where I requested it not go. When I stated this would not work Mark (the owner) said if I wanted it moved I would have to pay for it. I bit my tongue and told them to continue on. This would later cost me an additional $10,000 to frame out a ceiling in that basement and have just under an 8' ceiling as opposed to a 10' ceiling if they had done the job as I requested. From day 1 this HVAC system has been a problem. Below is a list of problems: - The house has 2 separate geothermal units. Each of these is then divided in to zones. These zones are controlled by Zone dampers. These dampers have not work properly since the start. They have been worked on many times by RSoB. One zone we freeze to death in because the ducts blow no air. In another zone that is OFF, the ducts are blowing air hard. - Water flow from the well is controlled by a valve for each unit. These have been a constant issue. They have been replaced many times. Refrigeration service of Blountville repeatedly blamed my well for the issue, each time their valves turned out to be the problem. - Refrigeration Service of Blountville has tried to void on their 10 year warranty. They last time out, we received a service call bill. After we stated we were not paying it because it was covered under our warranty from them, they threatened to take us to small claims court over non payment! These problems are just the highlights. There have been many more! The geothermal HVAC system is a big money saver. I just would not recommend Refrigeration Service of Blountville to install or maintain it.
