Customers should book a few days ahead as they are always in demand due to the great service they provide. I recommend PetStyles to every one!!
1. Walked in, brought my dog in who has thick fur and very slightly overweight for his size. I get compliments on my dog's appearance nearly every time I take him for a walk (3 times a day). He is a very happy and healthy dog! However, the first comment from the person working behind the counter is a witty comment about how he's fat or dumpy. I took it lightly at first, but throughout our introduction to the dog she kept making little not-so-funny remarks about his weight. It was kind of like, ok, I get it, you think he's fat... not funny.
2. After a family member had spoken with a Pet Styles staff member about my dog, they told us that due to his breed that they would not recommend shaving his thick fur down to the undercoat, as it would grow back unevenly and was not necessary. However, the two people working behind the counter gave a thorough account of why we needed to shave him down. One staff member said that he was badly matted and that if they tried to go through the fur and brush it out, it would be and quot;tortureand quot; for the dog and that he would likely suffer from skin infections, etc. In a 10 minute conversation about it, they almost had an accusative tone as if my dog had been neglected. The conversation kind of tired and grumpy rather than reassuring and motivated. One worker there in particular was borderline rude in talking about my dog... the same worker who incorrectly tried to tell me what breed my dog is.
So, basically they were not-so-pleasantly trying to say that the only thing they would do for him was shave him down to his undercoat, which I would have been absolutely fine with if it was medically necessary. I love my dog more than anything and give him a great life in which he is never neglected and certainly has never been the matted creature they made him out to be. He is a beautiful dog, but has thick fur that needs to be groomed. Furthermore, by no means was this the first groomer I have taken him to... I take him monthly to get him trimmed.
3. I was at a point where I felt compelled to get him shaved, because they had me concerned for his health, but at that point was given the option to speak with their owner/ manager about him. The manager did have a slightly more reassuring tone, and completely countered what the other two had told me, saying that for an extra $10 (ridiculous), they could brush my dog's fur out with a and quot; 64 dollar conditioner (why would you tell me how much it costs them?),and quot; and trim him. So I reluctantly signed up for that. Because I heard good things about the place, I went through with it. I left the building with the impression that the first 2 employees were trying to sell me on shaving my dog down so they didn't get stuck with the work of brushing out his undercoat.
4. I returned in the afternoon to pick my dog up from the grooming, and again was greeted at the counter by the same employee from earlier. She asked my name and then said and quot;oh yeah I know your dog, I groomed him. He's been acting funny since I gave him a bowl of water earlier.and quot; They then brought him out, and though they did a decent job with the $50 trim, he was panting heavily and wheezing desperately as if he hadn't had a drink in the 6 and a half hours he was there. He was making dry, raspy noises with his throat that I have never heard him make, and I quickly took him out and got him some cold water to drink. He was completely exhausted and quickly slurped the water down for 10 minutes, as if dying of thirst. I was infuriated and called back to and quot;Pet Stylesand quot; and spoke with the groomer again. I asked how long he had been like this, he seemed like he must have been wheezing for hours! She said and quot;I don't know we gave him a bowl of water in his cage after the grooming, and quot; and proceeded to try to tell me how dogs sometimes don't drink water when they're without their owners for awhile in a strange place, and that they get anxiety, etc. and more garbage that seemed to try to dodge my questions. I want to know who watches over the 20+ dogs I saw go in and out of there while the others are being groomed? Are the pets put in cages with a bowl of water in a hot back room with no ventilation? What was the problem? This place seriously was churning out the pets when I arrived to pick up my dog. I saw about 10-15 small similar dogs leave the place all with the SAME haircut...do they have the staff and time for quality care for the number of pets they take in?
Again I have been to numerous groomers and never has my dog acted like this. In fact, my dog has never shown signs of dehydration, heat exhaustion, separation anxiety, or anything that might have been the cause of distress after leaving the groomer. He is a sweet, well behaved, well adjusted little dog who deserves the same attention any other pet does that comes in through their front door.
Thanks for sticking with me there...I would never recommend Pet Styles to anyone who cares about the well being of their pet!
