Nygren's True Value Hardware

After several months in the shop, I received a VERY terse, rude call from Mr. Nygren, saying my mower needed to "get out of his way." (Terse and rude are two of his more endearing traits, as he had acted that way on a previous visit to his store.) I went in when I could, FOR WARRANTY REPAIR (a/k/a no charge) and he proceeded to ring up a $54 bill for work I did not AUTHORIZE, APPROVE, OR EXPECT. Nygren should have called and asked for approval before performing the work, and I likely would have been okay with it. In fairness, part of the bill included a winter storage charge, which I'm fine with since it was there for a while. Not expecting to be forced to pay anything, and preparing to go to my sister's funeral, I told him I couldn't (though really shouldn't have to) pay anything at that time. He simply yelled, "There'll be more on the storage charge, then." I offered, rather than argue in his store, to take my business somewhere else in the future. He simply shrugged, as if to say, "go ahead." And so, I will--and so, I recommend the same to you. At Vermillion's True Value Hardware Store, you will be treated like an imposition, an object, a bother--rather than a CUSTOMER TRYING TO SHOP LOCALLY and keep yet another business from blowing town. It's obvious Nygren doesn't appreciate that effort, and doesn't care whether he helps customers (or even has customers) or not--so I will no longer be one. In short--one word of advice regarding your future business at Nygren's True Value Hardware is a resounding "DON'T!"
