We were impressed with the 'dog and pony' show of the owners (husband and wife team) when they came to do the estimate - it was professionally presented, and included multiple choices of quality and styles of shingles. However, a show is exactly what it turned out to be because once they had a signed contract and received the down payment any and all professionalism from the owners went out the window. A call was made to confirm their start date 4 days prior (needed to make boarding arrangements for our dogs so they wouldn't be in the way outside), and was assured they were on schedule and they'd be starting on that date. But the start date came and went with no call from them as to why no one showed up. When contacted the office admin checked with the owner (wife), and we were told the shingles had yet to be delivered from the supplier. (So why then the confirmation of the start date when contacted the prior week?) That was just the start of the communication issue - rather lack of communication issue. Two weeks later (finally the shingles were in town only to have weather issues then cause further delay) they finally showed up to start the tear off - that went well (minus the fact our satellite dish needed to be reset after they ran into it while tearing off shingles), but that crew was hard working, worked until dark and was back mid-morning the next day to finish clean-up. Then another delay - it was nearly evening before the shingles and the installers (including the owner/husband) showed up - apparently delivery of the shingles to our house had not been made ahead of time - so not much progress was made before it was dark and they had to stop working for that day. Day 2 of the install - noticeable progress installing the new shingles was actually made that day! Day 3 of the install ... no progress at all. When I came home around 3 pm to find no one was - nor had been - working at our house I contacted the office again only to be told the owner/husband and crew were on the way over. They showed up alright, but only to inform me the reason no work was done that day was because the lead of this particular install crew had to (unexpectedly) be in court that morning ... apparently that meant the rest of the crew couldn't work either. (I don't think it's out of line to say except for the crew lead the rest of the workers spoke very little English, which is perhaps why they needed him to be on site?) Owner/husband assured us (sound familiar??) that the job would still be completed the next day. Day 4 of the install (Friday) ... called the office in the morning to check that a crew would be at our house to finish the job, and owner/wife confirmed a crew was in fact on their way, and the job would certainly finish up that day ... so imagine my dismay when I came home from work at the end of the day to find in fact not only had very little progress been made, but no crew was to be found, and shingles and tools had been left laying in the yard. Still another call made to the office (I admit to being very frustrated and upset by now!), only to be told by owner/wife that one of the crew members had to (unexpectedly - again) leave for home which meant they ALL had to leave ... the crew members were all from Denver (?), and traveled in one car so since one had to leave they *all* had to leave - and were gone by noon that day. When asked why no one else was available to work on our roof I was told they were all busy at other job sites. And that they weren't responsible for it taking longer than expected because "these things happen". And though owner/husband had made it a point earlier in the week to say he worked at least some each day with each crew to make sure things were going smoothly on each job where was he? In Pierre, working on a job there. So, sorry but our house would have to wait until after the weekend before someone could get over and complete the job. Contacted the owner/husband in Pierre to express frustration and displeasure, and he said HE would be at our house on Monday with HIS crew, and they WOULD get it done. He was in fact at the house on Monday with his guys, but it was more work than they could finish that day so they had to come back and work finish up on Tuesday. And on Wednesday?? Their bill for the remainder of payment came in the mail - 'due upon completion of work'. Fast forward to the next Monday (3 business days after getting the bill) - received contact from the owner/wife that if payment was not immediately made they would put a lien on our house! An effort was made to negotiate an adjustment to the final bill for the many delays, inconveniences, damages (satellite dish, light fixture, broken gate), and clean up mess that had to be dealt with when they finally finished , but that was met with extremely angry and inappropriate phone and email messages from the owners, so in the end the bill was paid in full just to be done with it. Oh wait ... they did replace the light fixture that had been damaged during the job (at no charge - as noted on the bill). Yay?
