waI woke up in the morning to no hot water. I went downstairs and found that the water heater was leaking and the pilot was out. I called am pm plumbing to have someone come out. I called them because we have used them before and thought they were ok. Doc (very broken english, hard to understand) finally shows up a little after 1:00pm and we determine that I do need a new water heater and expansion tank to bring it up to code. He said it would be about $900. He left to get the parts and was gone for over 2 hours. Now it is late in the afternoon, we have no hot water and Doc says that it was going to be more than he said. Now it is $1168.00. I wasn’t happy, but what am I going to do, go without hot water and take another day off work? He installs everything in under 2 hours and leaves.
That night, I searched the parts installed and realized that all the parts retail prices add up to about $400, so labor is $768 for under 2 hours???
The next morning I called am pm and let them know that I wanted an itemized bill as I feel that I have been grossly over charged. She takes my info and says she will talk to someone and get back to me. After a while Doc calls me and just starts giving me the prices of the items. I don’t know if I have these exactly right, but they are close:
The $347 (retail price) water heater, they charged $843.
The $36 - $45 expansion tank, they charged $247.
The $10 ball valve, they charged $98.
I explained to him that I know what the prices of those items cost and that I feel like I’m getting charged almost $800 for less than 2 hours of labor. His reply is that they charge by the job not by time. We went back and forth for a while and he offered to give me $200 back which I said wasn’t enough and that I wanted to talk to Dan (he had mentioned Dan a few times and I found out he is the manager). He said he would have Dan call me. 2 hours later Dan called me and I explained everything again to him. His excuse was that they are a flat rate company and don’t charge by the hour. My thought is that I am paying x amount of dollars over retail price, you might as well divide that by the hours worked.
Also, one of my concerns was where were they for 2 hours? Dan’s excuse was that Menards is a pain in the a**. You have to drive around back and they have to check the van out. I’m sorry, but that doesn’t take 2 hours in the middle of the afternoon on a Monday in Sioux Falls. My theory is either Doc went to work on another job, or Doc stalled to get it later in the afternoon, where I am stuck between a rock and a hard place before he jacks the price up another $268 from his original quote.
I will never use this company again and if I knew someone had them scheduled, I would beg them to reconsider and cancel that appointment.
I have submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for their shady business practices.

We woke up at 4:00 AM to find that our water heater was leaking from the top. I called AM/PM to come by and take a look at it. It needed to be replaced (which I suspected anyways). The two guys who came were quick, professional, courteous, engaging, friendly... and every other positive adjective I can think of. The price was less than I'd expected to pay. No one ever WANTS to use a plumber, but if I have to again - it's going to be these guys.

AM PM did a wonderful job in an older home fixing a leaking old claw-foot tub. They were quick, pleasant, professional, told us exactly what they were going to do. There were no surprises. I would use them again.

We called Am Pm this morning and they sent Dax out within a couple of hours. Did not take long for him to locate the problem area. Determined that the faucet was leaking behind the tub and running under the tub into the ceiling of the main floor. Decided to have the faucet set replaced, as well as the drain mechanism, which was very corroded and ugly. It took Dax and Tommie a reasonable amount of time to replace these parts. They kept the areas they were working in very clean, very conscientious about keeping the entire job neat and tidy, wore shoe covers as well. I feel they did a great job, were very responsive and responsible, and would definitely call them for future plumbing needs.

We purchased the water heater through someone else. I don't remember the price but I know it was reasonable. He is just very honest with you. He will come in as soon as he can and he will be as honest as possible. He will tell you exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it. He is great at communicating with us about what is going on and we feel comfortable using his services.

Excellent. It was late at night and the city didn't come in a timely matter. The company gave us a discount for the cities lateness, even though they had no control over it.
