"Thank you, Linda! Thank you so much for the kind words and for trusting Weather-Tite with your home improvement project! We’re thrilled to hear you’re happy with your new roof, windows, siding, and gutters. It was a pleasure working with you every step of the way, and we truly appreciate the opportunity to enhance and protect your home. If you ever need anything in the future, we’re just a phone call away!"
"[Member Name Removed], I'm sorry we weren't more prompt in getting back to you, we were looking forward to working with you. Please understand that we have thousands and thousands of homes in our community in need of roof repair due to the hail this summer, our phone rings constantly day and night. We are doing everything we can to help you and your neighbors, but we have not had this much damage in a long time. We should have been more explicit with you about this situation. I'm sorry we couldn't meet your expectations and I wish you the best with your repairs."
"Thanks for the feedback [member name removed]! We very much appreciated the opportunity to restore your roof. Please let me know if anything comes up that we can help with....Thanks Again = ) Enjoy the summer if it ever gets here!"
time. The roof looks great. I also had hail damage on my cedar siding and they did an excellent job replacing it. I highly recommend this company and working with Christian Dietz.
"Thanks so much [member name removed]! I appreciate the positive feedback and am glad you and Bob are pleased with the work we did. If anything should come up in the future, please don't hesitate to call. Thanks Again! Christian"
After several telephone calls, and being told of several different start dates by Christian, we were finallly advised the partnership with Katon Construction had fallen apart but that "his crew" from Rapid City should be able to start "soon".
Finally on August 12th (1 day short of 3 weeks after we paid $5,000 and signed the contract) the shingles were delivered and placed on top of the existing, damaged roof. A crew of 5 men showed up consisting of two "shinglers" and 3 tear out workers, who as it turned out, were temporary day laborers. This was contrary to Christian relating to us that Weather-Tite ONLY used it's own employees. On August 13th, a slightly different crew arrived in a newly purchased, but older pickup which promptly leaked oil all over our drive way, the curbing, and the street all day. The oil in the street and curbing still exists today, but they pressure washed most of the oil from the drive way.
With only ONE late afternoon rain delay on 8/13 (at 3:30 pm), Weather-Tite required FOUR days to complete our roof. Several of our immediate neighbors with comparable size homes have had roofs replaced in from 1 to 2 days, but NONE took four days. I attribute this to lack of supervision since we only saw Christian Dietz once, and the project manager twice during the four days.
On August 27th, Christian Dietz called me and advised that "his partner", Dan Jansen was en route to measure for the guttering. (As it turns out, Dan Jansen actually founded the company and entered into a partnership with Christian Dietz.) When Dan arrived, and advised me his guttering crew was "undergoing training" at another work site, and as soon as they finished, they would complete our gutter repair. I advised Dan I did not wish to be a "guinea pig", or "lab" to train any more construction crews, and we reached a settlement amount for the roof only, and he was paid.
Christian Dietz on behalf of Weather-Tite Exteriors consistently made promises and agreements that he could not uphold, and representations which turned out to not be true. As a result, we would not recommend Weather-Tite Exteriors to anyone.
"I’m sorry that [removed member name] felt inclined to write his review after our work was completed. Firstly I’d ask readers to see our other reviews as well as testimonials on our website from prominent Rapid City residents, both commercial and residential customers, that talk about the excellent customer service we are generally known for in the area. Beyond that I concede that in a “storm” situation, there is a fair amount of chaos and once in awhile you end up with some unplanned and unwanted delays. In this case, I had formed an arrangement with a well respected contractor and good friend in the Spearfish area that was very close to the local situation. He was building a Residential Sub-division in Spearfish, which put his crews right in the middle of the hail damaged areas. We have partnered on many projects in the past and he was going to perform the installations for us since he was logistically closer than we were by almost an hour each way. As the work from the storm developed, he became overwhelmed and was not able to get to the [removed member name] on the time-frame we originally wanted. It was never said to [removed member name] that the relationship “fell apart” as he suggests, as Katon is a longtime friend and business associate of mine….simply the timeline by which the work could be done which was explained to them. We adjusted our plan to have our crews in Rapid City do the roof so we could get it done sooner, and yes it was about 2 weeks later than we originally targeted by the time all was said and done. To accommodate the schedule changes, we had to move projects around and augment our crews with more people, some of whom were temporary laborers which was necessary to complete the work as soon as possible. Storms create very different dynamics than regular business and adjustments are common in order to stay on, or as close to schedule as possible….the is dynamic does require the use of temporary laborers at time. The timeframe at the [removed member name] was not ideal for sure but we did what was necessary to adjust to changing circumstances in a fast moving environment. Additionally, we did acquire our own Gutter/Downspout equipment and hired a crew to handle that part of our business instead of sub-contracting. This was simply an expansion of our business and yes it was a new division of the company that enabled us more control of that aspect of the work we were performing and was far preferable to subbing out the work. [removed member name] unfortunately characterizes some of the changes and adjustments that were made as ‘broken promises’ and ‘mis-representations’ and while I’m sorry he feels that way, I respectfully disagree with him. The nature of how business operates in a storm is very different than other circumstances and even though we are very well staffed and have very strong business partners, projects do not always go as planned due to the volume of work and availability of resources. In the big picture though, when considering the 100’s of jobs we do in a storm, these situations are a very low percentage of all the work we perform. I’d ask any readers of these reviews to look at our other reviews to get a more complete picture of our dedication to customer service. Lastly, Weather-Tite Exteriors, LLC is a South Dakota Company jointly owned 50/50% by myself and Dan Jansen."
Because of the way Christian handled a delicate situation and made sure our work was completed, I would now highly recommend Christian and Weather-Tite for home remodeling work.
I strong believe that every contractor, no matter how ling they have been in business or reputation for quality work, will run into problems that will require extra effort to resolve. Those few who handle problems and challenges best are the ones that deserve our business.
Good luck with your project and I hope you will give Weather-Tite a chance. I don't think you will regret it.
"Yeah [member name removed], I really appreciate you being patient and open-minded to letting me come back and straighten out the situation with you. It was unfortunate for sure that the process took an unexpected turn after I left town. As you know, I was somewhat mystified by those events and definitely not the kind of situation I would ever let go unresolved. In the grand scheme of things, we are a people first and a business second so time and money will always take a back seat to upholding right and fair principles with customers, and even more so in cases like yours where there’s been inconvenience and headaches. That is an underlying operating principle that I’m proud of and in some cases separates us from other businesses. As we discussed, there are those businesses that would have called it a bad day and just walked away because of the additional investment required to properly correct the situation. What happened in your case certainly threw me for a loop, but it was certainly avoidable, and only appropriate for us to dig in deeper and work harder to ‘make it right’ with you. And isn’t it fascinating looking back to see the outcome of just some basic ‘do unto others...’ principles now that we have turned this situation around 180 degrees: being able to help you get the garage done and then the referrals you’ve given me as well as the other discussions we have just begun that could last a long time into the future. Thank you for allowing that to develop since you could have walked away as well. I look forward to making progress on my other endeavor you've been so generous to help me with!"
"Thanks ! We are of course appreciative for the opportunity to be of service. Please keep me informed of any other needs that we may be able to assist with. Always happy to help :)"
"Thanks ! I really appreciate the nice words. With all the high winds in your area we may need to keep an eye on things for a bit till everything completely seals. Please let me know if anything comes up that we need to tend to. Best!"
"Thanks! I enjoyed meeting you and your family and am glad we were able to get together on your project. Let me know if there's anything that comes up that we need to tend to. Cheers!"
