My wife ordered a police scanner for a gift for Christmas. A couple of days after Christmas, I began the process to set the scanner up for the local channels. After reviewing the 127 pages of instructions for set-up, I could readily see I was probably in for more than I could handle so I had my very computer literate son attempt to set it up. After several hours, he could not get it to function. I then took it up to Radio Shack here in Rapid City to seek some technical assistance. Three employees were on duty, with only one other customer in the store. I approached the counter and told them my plight with getting the scanner programmed and that I would appreciate some assistance or guidance as to how to accomplish this. One of the salesman said "I don't know anything about that" and shrugged me off.
The other clerk asked if I had tried the internet to get instructions and then he walked off leaving me standing in the store with my scanner with absolutely no further attempt on any of the clerks part to help me.
I left, and then contacted a radio communications company personally here in Rapid City. They worked on it for about a half an hour at no charge, and were unsucessful in getting it programed. They suggusted I take it back to Radio Shack for a refund.
The next day, I took it back to Radio Shack and asked for a refund. I had the sales receipt and all the packaging except for one small piece of cardboard that was in the box which I must have replaced. The clerk, which is one of the guys that shrugged me off
the previous day, told me that they do not accept returned merchandise unless all the packaging is intact. Now, I'm talking a piece of cardboard that was just filler for the scanner in the box. All other materials were intact. He then looked at me and said "you probably wouldn't buy this if this piece of cardboard was missing, would you?" I was speechless and said nothing. He then asked another employee in the store, "Would you buy this if this if this piece of cardboard is missing?" The other clerk said "probably not". He then told me he was going to check in the back of the store to see if he could find a piece of cardboard to stick in the box.
After about a ten minute wait, he came back and asked for my credit card so he could give me a refund.
I will never go back to that store to purchase anything again.
