Potential future customers deserve transparency so that is prompting this review. Be prepared to pay their hourly rate for their travel time plus a mileage rate. We were charged 3.5 hrs at $114/hr for an install of a water heater (that we supplied) and that included 30 minutes spent in his truck writing up the invoice. Then, for the boiler check which took him about 15 minutes, we were charged 1 hour at $130/hr. Total time from drive in to drive out of our driveway was 3 hrs, 48 minutes. Between the inflated labor costs and up-charging of supplies, consumables, mileage, and drive time, we paid over $800. Calling to question the charges only prompted rudeness. We will never use them again and do not recommend to others.

We entrusted Action Mechanical with two residential projects over 6 years ($20,000). The most recent project installed two Amana Gas Furnaces and a Gas Water Heater (Dec 2020). Until spring, our impression of Action Mechanical was quite favorable. Technicians (Jerry/Joe/ Warren/Jared especially, but others) proved experienced craftsmen, courteous and dedicated. Unfortunately, company leaders (Pres/VP) wrecked this favorable impression with cavalier handling of our concerns. Disrespect and textbook unprofessionalism earned them a solid F- in the category of “we value you as customers.” Don’t be fooled by their sprightly Facebook page or VP Matt Sheesley “the fixer” offering conciliatory “give me a call” retorts in response to unfavorable reviews. We were displeased, they knew it and would not hear us. Unreturned phone calls, unanswered letters, poor judgement and arrogance characterized our most recent experience. Our $14,500 project (agreed initial proposal) ballooned into an $18,000 project and how it happened was unacceptable. “Cost-creep” started with the initial site survey incorrectly assuming the coil from the existing furnace could be used in the new furnace ($900). However, the company was still in our good graces so no big deal. What become a big deal was discovering in spring both A/C units were inoperative. The same infamous site survey promised the A/C function of our heat pumps would not be impacted by the furnace installs. In fact, both units were broken and Action Mechanical’s conclusion was bad valves on aged units. To be clear, our A/C worked perfectly the summer before the gas furnace installs. And while logic and reason would implicate the furnace installation process, the company deflected responsibility, declaring the cost of repair our ugly baby. Our confidence in Action Mechanical began its nosedive following a manager’s failure to respond to multiple calls and messages for two weeks following discovery of the issue (we finally had to go there). After two months of our large A/C unit not cooling properly following repair/troubleshooting) we reached out to VP Matt Sheesley requesting he 1) solve our lingering A/C cooling issue, and 2) consider our position that the A/C issues were triggered by the furnace installs. He did help resolve #1 (albeit unprofessionally and disrespectfully over a misunderstanding), but never addressed #2. Absent of a follow-up call, we received a bill for $2,600 which incensed us. Matt’s failure was clearly rooted in mistakenly believing he was doing us a favor. We were his customer, we had legitimate concerns and entrusted him to address those concerns in good faith using his positional discretion. Instead, he behaved like a low-level supervisor. Following Matt’s blunders, we wrote the company president (Matt’s sister Missy) who, in turn, ignored our letter. A BBB complaint followed to compel a response (it did). She apologized for being unresponsive (pledging it would not happen again) and offered to reimburse ½ of our $2,600 payment. We found her apology lacking, her offer of “charity” unacceptable and rejected it. She had not addressed responsibility for the A/C failure (although we’d been asking), nor did she apologize for ill treatment by brother Matt. In our rejection, we again expressed our willingness to discuss our grievance face-to-face. After 1+ week without contact we wrote another letter. Sadly, what she had pledged “would not happen again,” (BBB) happened again--no reply. This arrogant behavior exposed how quickly leaders could vilify and set aside a loyal, tenured customer. It became clear that our 6-year relationship was worth less than a $2,600 invoice. Also clear was that this duo lacks any semblance of professional decorum. Swim at own risk! The two workers arrived early, on MLK day and did a fantastic job.  They respected my hardwood floors and laid down canvas blankets to shield the floors from their boots.
The work was done in under an hour and were polite and responsive to our needs.

Of course, this happened on a weekend.   We couldn't go the entire weekend without water so we paid extra to have weekend service.   The repairman had his family with him because he was watching his kids but they were well behaved and stayed in the vehicle.   We have had Action Mechanical out several times and they are always punctual and have done a great job.

I called Action Mechanical to install a new gas stove I purchased for my rental property in Rapid City. The technician came out on time, looked at the job and quoted a price. After the gas was shut off by the gas company, the technician came out again, did the job and charged my credit card LESS than what he had quoted me on the day he initially looked at the job.

I didn't even have to be at the house. I didn't have to lift a finger.

I will certainly call Action Mechanical again if the need arises.

The technician came promptly after being notified of a water leak. It took him a while to detect where the leak was coming from, but once that was determined, he promptly obtained a new water heater, removed the damaged one, and installed the new one. At our request, he also installed a new main water shut off valve in a more accessible spot. Unfortunately, that valve failed 2 days later due to a defective part, but the technician returned to our house as soon as notified to rectify the problem. The cost of the repairs was a bit on the high side, but thanks to our insurance coverage, we only had to pay a portion of it.
In an emergency, we might call again on Action Mechanical as they are extremely responsive, but in a non-emergency situation with a bigger time window for work to be performed, we will be looking for someone else with more affordable prices.

1. Owner visited my home (50 miles one way from the business) and gave me bid on installing the ductless HVAC LG air conditioner/heat pump system.

2. Promptly emailed me (as a document) the bid.

3. Excellent communication between Action Mechanical and myself before the installation date.

4. Set up installation date to coincide with the electrician's visit (to wire for the installation).

5. Arrived on the scheduled date and time.

6. The two installers were very courteous and professional. They explained what they were doing and after finished they explained how to work the unit (even though I did not buy the unit from Action Mechanical).

7. Installation was practically seamless though they had to call another technician to come to my home to finish testing the outside condenser unit because original installers did not have a special fitting to use on my LG HVAC unit (which they do not sell). This other technician also traveled 50 miles one way to complete the job. All were very courteous and professional.

8. I highly recommend this company for any and all plumbing, HVAC, and other installations.

9. Great experience and reasonable pricing for the work done.

The man that came over was fast, courteous and even funny. He initially thought it was not broken and offered to show me how to fix it if this happened in the future so I wouldn't have to pay a plumber. The value turned out to be broken and had to be replaced. He did it is a flash. I would totally use them again!

They were good. The service cost less than $200 and the work that they did was fine. We have had problems that we could not diagnose and they came right in and did it. Their timing was really quick and they were professional. They took care of the problem and left the place neat and clean.

I called and the receptionist immediately dispatched a technician. He arrived within 30 min and got to work immediately on the issues. Originally we he thought there was one pipe that had burst due to cold weather. After that repair, and turning back on the water, two more burst. He immediately suggested putting a shut-off valve so I could get water to the rest of the house and then repair the cracked pipes once the weather warmed up since they were not supplying vital areas and repair may actually cause additional breaks.
He was courteous, explained things and was honest and up-front!

When I called Action's office, they told me they were booked out months in advance, so I told them to send someone over that evening and I'd pay the after hours rate to get the problem fixed promptly (there's not shutoff valve to the fridge, otherwise I would have just shut off the water to the fridge and gone without ice for awhile). A plumber soon called from his cell phone and told me he was on his way. A little while after he'd said he would arrive, we still hadn't seen him, so I called. He said he was getting gas and would be there soon, which he was. While he was surveying the situation, we chatted a bit, and he was incredulous when I told him the office had told me they were booked out months in advance....he said that was not the case. I now wonder if I was told that they were booked out precisely in the hope that I would agree to pay the higher after-hours rate. The plumber determined that he didn't have the size or type of tubing he needed (although I had told him and his dispatcher the nature of the problem by phone), so he made a trip to a hardware store to get it. He got back almost an hour later and had the tubing replaced within minutes of his return.
He then presented me with a bill encompassing the time between when he left to come to my house - including getting gas on the way - AND going to the hardware store and back because his truck wasn't stocked with the supplies he needed. I questioned the billing at the time but he said that's the way he's required to bill, and that he was required to collect payment on the spot.
I paid him at the time and spoke to Action's office a day or two later by phone. I was told the general manager would call me to discuss my concerns, which never happened.
