Outstanding work. Steve was prompt, courteous, and the workmanship was unmatched. For the price of this project, I was absolutely blown away. This type of contractor is a blessing in this day and time. Anyone thinking of having any kind of exterior work done to your home or business, Steve is the guy for you. I am beyond please with my experience. I would absolutely recommend Sunset Xteriors to anyone.

Excellent work. Very punctual and professional. Steven was so easy to work with. I was unsure about the design I wanted, Steven suggested several different ideas and basically designed my entire backyard for me. I was so impressed with the time he took to make sure I was happy with my additions. He went above and beyond to make sure I was completely happy. Steven was one of the most professional individuals I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. His work was impeccable, as well as him being a pleasure to be around. Craftsmanship like this is very rare to come across these days. I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone.

Steven of Sunset Xteriors was a complete professional and quoted a firm price upfront, he stuck to that price. He even did additional work not covered under our agreement without charging me for it. He definitely cares about the quality of his construction and leaving the client satisfied of his work. I highly recommend Steven and Sunset Xteriors if your are looking for a deck, fence or anything wood related. Everyone that has seen the workmanship have asked two things: 1) Who did the work and 2) How much did that cost. Well I can attest that I was pleasantly pleased with his prices. Sometimes when you go cheap, you get what you pay for. However with Sunset Xteriors, they are reasonable and their work is superior to what you see at other homes. Definitely not a drive by night outfit.

Sunset Xteriors, owner Steven McCoy, constructed our screen room and deck as an unsupervised subcontractor to Palmetto Enclosures. He was not licensed at the time he did the work (while my contractor was licensed, McCoy was not--I called LLR after the fact to verify this). He did a terrible job. Despite being told by me that we intended to put ceramic tile in the screen room, he spaced the floor joists at 24? on-center, making it impossible to install the floor we wanted (minimum 16? spacing is required to support ceramic tile in unheated space). The contractor had to come back to add additional joists with joist hangers to make the subfloor suitable for ceramic tile.
McCoy used uncoated lag bolts on pressure treated lumber and didn?t seat many of the beams on the posts, relying instead on fasteners to hold them in place.  Two of the bolts holding the main beam in place aren?t even fully seated. He missed a lot of nails in fastening the subfloor to the joists (the subfloor is supposed to be glued and screwed to the subfloor if ceramic tile is to be installed) and the subfloor is uneven in many places, which will require more expensive self-leveling thinset to properly complete the tile installation. During eight days of construction, he had three different workers helping him and none were properly supervised. What we got was a deck with mismatched joints, crude saw cuts, out-of-plumb rail posts, crooked rail pickets, half-driven nails, warped decking and rails with filled with knot holes, and uneven riser heights.
This guy holds himself out through his website [web link removed] as an expert in deck construction, yet he isn?t even licensed, which means he isn?t bonded or insured. Despite spending almost $24,000 on this project, we did not get our money?s worth, due largely to Mr. McCoy and his substandard construction methods. Now it will cost even more to correct these mistakes. I?d file a LLR complaint if I thought the additional effort and expense would offer any relief. But since he wasn?t licensed in the first place, there?s little LLR can do. So I post this review in hopes of helping others avoid our fate.
