I have issues with the subcontractor for McGuinn Homes ever since my first walk through. They hung all the doors wrong, attempted to shim the hinges 3/4" instead of fixing the door jams and then finally fixed the doors. I have found out that some of my walls aren't on 16" studs but range from 14" to 22", a giant difference that makes a pain when trying to work. Due to the issues, I am debating on remving sheet rock and adding 2x4, and then rehanging sheet rock myself, because the contractors are worry about rushing and not dping the job correctly. Have replaced the kitchen faucet and bathroom faucet in the first 2 months. The walls are not square, as well. Buyer beware in the hopkins area, with the contractors. 25April2025 last update, will continue update as I find more issues with the house.

BUYER BEWARE!! I was set to close on a house in Ashton Lakes, Lot #88 1144 Citation Street in Lexington, SC, on June 14th but ended up walking away because of the shoddy workmanship this company presented to me and refused to fix. I did my "blue tape" walk through on June 2 and pointed out things that needed to be fixed. There were so many things wrong that I doubt I will have enough characters in this review to put everything. From cracked kitchen cabinet, cracked kitchen granite, dent in microwave, doorbell installed crooked, washing machine hook up installed crooked, broken bathroom cabinet, huge scratch on shower door, the drywall in garage was not uniform along the bottom, stains on the floor in garage, you could see the lines/bumps on drywall on ceiling and walls, squishy areas on the floor where the vinyl plank flooring was installed, areas on ceiling where you could see drywall tape exposed and many other minor items. I was assured that these items would be fixed. I specifically asked for the cracked kitchen cabinet to be replaced and not to spackle and paint it. The night before closing I asked my realtor to let me look through the house. Needless to say that I left there in tears. They didn't fix the majority of my blue tape items and the ones they did fix were done so poorly and quick you could tell that the builder just doesn't care. My realtor sent an email to the builder and I met with them at the house the following morning. I met with Brian and Sergio. To make a long story short, Sergio said that he tried to fix the walls and ceiling, but he couldn't smooth them out. He blamed it on cheap paint, not that their construction was done poorly(eyeroll). My realtor said if it was only the paint then they could agree to paint my walls in the same paint as model since the model doesn't have bumpy walls and ceilings. They refused saying it would cost them too much to use the model home paint. In reality, they knew a better paint wasn't going to fix the issue because they did shoddy construction and it shows. Maybe they thought a woman buying this house on her own would believe the BS and accept this shoddy POS house? They promised to replace the cracked cabinet after I pointed out that they sloppily patched it and painted it against my wishes. They refused to replace cracked granite, but said they could polish it out for me(another eyeroll.) I told them that I wasn't going to buy this house. I told them that they should be embarrassed to show this house as a finished product. Afterwards, there were some people behind the scenes trying to get the builder to do the right thing and fix the mess they created, even if it meant for them to totally re-do the drywall and ceilings. The builder refused. My realtor told me the builder was afraid that I would call them constantly to come in to fix things with the 1 year warranty they offered. Their warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on if they don't have skilled workers to build their houses or have management who care enough to make sure their workers are doing the job right. Funny thing is, the builder never would have heard from me again if they would have built it right the first time. Don't trust this builder.

We were living in Florida from the time we signed a contract with McGuinn until the house was finished and we closed. The builder's representatives kept in touch with us from start to finish, even sending us emails and pictures of the construction project.

McGuinn is an honest company and we felt we had a say from start to finish is the building and buying process. We were still living in Florida when the house was built and yet they stayed in contact with us and sent us pictures and video all along the way.
