Purchased a three year old home that had been under contract with Home Pest Control. Paid a $195.00 transfer fee and the annual inspection was almost due. Scheduled an appointment about two weeks ahead for an afternoon service between 2 and 4. Went to the property and stayed all afternoon, no one showed up or called. Called the company and was told they would check on it and call me back. No one ever showed up or contacted me. Previous reviews were good so I wonder if there has been a change in ownership or something else that their service has deteriorated. Should I request a refund for the transfer fee and get someone else?

"Mr. [Member Name Removed], We apologize for the mix up. That technician was pulled to fill in for another who was out sick that day. We were not aware that you expected to meet him that day. This was an unconfirmed "anytime" inspection. Rest assured your warranty is fully in effect, regardless of when the inspection is completed. I will be in touch with you today to resolve this issue. Thank you for the feedback."

The technician put poison and baits in various places around the house. He said we would see an increase in the bugs for a while, as they came out of hiding to go after the baits, but after that it should diminish. If we still were seeing too many after about four weeks, he said, we should call for another treatment. It went about as he said it would. The bugs have not totally disappeared, but we didn't call them to come back, because most of those we see now are dead or close to it. He also pointed out that these bugs don't come in from outdoors but usually arrive in cardboard boxes in which merchandise is delivered. So now we remove the merchandise right away and take the boxes to the recycling rollercart outside.

Very pleased with the prompt response and inspection. Representative and Assistant were most courteous and performed an extensive examination of my home. Staff answered all of my questions and also displayed skills and knowledgeable on all details. The contract cost for both the Termite Contract and the Pest Control Protection was reasonable and acceptable.

I have been using them for several years and they always do an incredible job. After they apply the treatment, you're able to sit outside without any problems. If for any reason you have any problems in between treatments they'll come back out at no additional cost. They are also very courteous, prompt, and are very accommodating to the homeowner. I would highly recommend the.

They come out every three months, but I pay them $22 every month. They're punctual. They come whenever I call between the times that they are scheduled to come, so they're responsive to what we need. They're friendly.

They were prompt and courteous.  The second visit was half price.  The men who came out explained exactly what they were doing.  The second man went into the attic and into the crawlspace to spray.

I called and talked with a pleasant gentleman who confirmed that my warranty had not expired and that the notice had been sent out by mistake.  I then questioned the price of the retreatment and the price of the future warranty.  He explained their reasoning and I told him I would have to shop around for a better price.  He said he would talk with the owner of the company and would call me back.  The owner did call me and that's when I realized I would never give another dime to this company.  He was arrogant, rude and downright mean.  The conversation went really wrong when he said their prices have risen just like my income.  I told him that was none of his business.  I told him I had a responsibility to question bills and to shop around if necessary and he said in a nutshell to go ahead, he didn't care and to have a great day.  I may not find a better price, I may even end up paying more, but I will not contribute to this company's bottom line again.  This is not a good business practice.

Read this before you buy and save money.  Bottom line: They charge more and can't specifically justify why their fees are sometimes two times higher that others except to say "we are professionals who are held to the highest standards"  (something their competitors say) and "you get what you pay for."  Shop around, you will probably get a better deal for the same service.
Because of AL, we have HOME pest and termite services.  We were pleased with their service (fairly good and what you would expect) and when we suspected that a room in our home might have bedbugs we called HOME, without shopping around (a mistake).  They charged $195 for the inspection and told us that typical treatment for a house would be about $695 and they would deduct the $195 from the price if we used their services.  We had the inspection (which seemed standard) and we decided to treat two small bedrooms (not the whole house just 2 small bedrooms)- price $895 (with the $195 credit it would be $700).  When asked about the $695, the tech said "that was PER ROOM."  Seemed expensive and was contrary to what we were told previously, especially since one of the rooms was not infected and the other showed minimal evidence of bugs. (HOME didn't even do what they were suppose to do- inspect the entire house- they just inspected one bedroom and, during the inspection, the technician stepped on the box spring and cracked one of the supports).

When we called around, we found that their inspection fee was twice that of some of their competition (some, like Clarke, don't charge anything for the inspection).  We also found out that their treatment fee is way above the competition we checked.  When my husband spoke with David (who we believe is the operations manager), David said, "$895 for the whole home is a great price" and he would check with the person who did the inspection. He told David that the $895 was just for two rooms not the whole house; nevertheless David was going to check.

When David called us back, he told my husband that $895 for two rooms is the price, the $695 was "the minimum fee," and that he has to make money.  When my husband asked what was the difference in service or treatment between HOME and the competition to justify the higher cost of the inspection and the treatment, he got the "we are professionals and we are held to the highest industry standards, etc."  We asked what the specific difference in the inspection protocol or treatment services was between HOME and the others to justify the much higher price (remember this is twice what others charge), he was told "we (HOME) don't know what the others do."  So, unable to justify why they were a lot more expensive than their competitors (since we are told by all other companies that they are professionals and held to the highest industry standards) it was left with "the price is the price" go to someone else if you want.  So we did- got a better deal (almost half what HOME was going to charge).
What was unprofessional about David was his defensive attitude when my husband confronted him with the obvious discrepancies in HOME's statements associated with the $695 treatment price originally quoted: was it for the whole house, per room, minimum fee- we got- "don't play word games with me."  He actually got upset that we relied on his previous statements when seeking an explanation.  Equally frustrating was the pure nonsense we got when we asked David to justify the higher fees charged by HOME.  David acted as if he was insulted that we would question the price and ask questions in order to make an informed decision- HOME may need to "make money" but: 1) so does their competition and 2) its our money that HOME wants, thus I think they would be able to explain in detail why they charge what they charge other than some undefined "adherence to professional standards," something most companies would do in order to get an A rating on AL.
These guys charge higher prices (at least in this instance), can't tell you the difference in service, training or treatment between HOME and others to justify the higher price other than to give you platitudes about being professional and highly trained (Orkin, Terminix and the others say the same) and "you get what you pay for," which is the last line of obfuscation when someone can't justify their price.  Shop around before you get hooked into these guys you most likely will get a better deal.
Response from Home Pest Control Co
"[Member name removed], I will let you know that I do wish that your husband and I could have worked things out over the phone in regards to the pricing and details of Home Pest Control’s services and pricing. I value all of my customer’s business and concerns regarding his/her account. I tried to explain that the $695 is a minimum charge that is set for my technician when he is pricing a home the size of yours. Home Pest Control does not give bed bug pricing until our trained technician completes a thorough inspection. We do charge for our inspections, as opposed to some of our competitors. That is a decision we made as a company. The inspection fee includes a professional inspection, written documentation of our findings and recommendations of a solution to the customer’s account. When asked what sets Home Pest Control apart from my competitors, I stated that “our technicians were trained to the highest of industry standards and our protocol is proven to eliminate bed bugs.” I did not feel as though it was necessary for me to explain in detail all practices within my protocol to eliminate bed bugs to a customer that was “shopping” services for what I thought was solely on the lowest price. I hate that I could not satisfy your husband’s needs during our phone call and wish you the best in solving your bed bug infestation. Respectfully, David Hill Operations Manager [email protected]"

They were fabulous.  Their first visit they did a huge spray and cleared out as many pests as possible. After that they came monthly for upkeep sprays.
