I had contacted my Home Builder, D.R. Horton, when I started receiving an error message on my Sprinkler Controller that one of my watering zones was inoperable. They informed me that the original landscaping company that installed my system was no longer working for them, but they would still send someone out to check it out. The Customer Service Manager for D.R. Horton actually came out and the two of us tried to locate the location of the Zone Cover that held the wiring and the valve to the defective zone. We found the valve location for two of the working zones (I have a 4 zone system) but were not able to locate the two remaining zone containers. I thanked him for coming out and told him that I would contact my Landscapers to see if they could help. I needed to get my bushes trimmed anyway.

I contacted my landscapers, Dreamscape Landscaping, whom sent out a couple of their guys to try to located the hidden valve containers. Unfortunately, they weren't able to locate the valve containers either. At least I got my bushes trimmed. They recommended that I contact Dick Leopard of Leopard's Irrigation whom specializes in Irrigation Repair.

I contacted Dick the next day and scheduled a time for him to come out and check everything out. He arrived promptly on-time as scheduled. He checked out the error message on the controller and said that my problem was probably due to a defective solenoid that probably got damaged during one of our winter storms. We both went out to try to locate the hidden valve containers, and came up empty handed again. He had an idea; he went back to his truck and came back with what looked like a hand-held voltmeter. He unhooked the main wire and ground for the hidden zone that was working from the controller and hooked them to this meter. He told me that the meter was capable of putting out a low voltage that would cause the workable solenoid to produce a clicking sound that hopefully we could hear which would allow us to locate the hidden container. He figured that if we could locate the workable zone solenoid, that the defective one would be located next to it.

Dick's idea not only worked, it was ingenious! We walked around the yard until we heard a clicking coming from the side of my house. We found both of the valve containers buried under mulch behind one the bushes. And his assessment was correct; the zone's solenoid was bad. He replaced the defective solenoid, and no more watering by hand! He also replaced a bunch of sprinkler heads that he said were the wrong type for the zone they were covering.

Best $100.00 I've ever spent! I highly recommend Dick to anyone that is in need of irrigation repair. He also designs and installs complete Irrigation Systems.

I like their pricing. They did a good job. I think he could have offered options on the control head.
