General Remodeling
Terrible, Brooks Pitts damaged the historic house I was purchasing and contracted illegal repairs. All repairs were performed without any of the required permits. I specifically informed the seller and Real Estate Agent (George Walker, Coldwell Banker) that I wanted this historic house to be repaired according to the Melrose Heights Historic District Preservation Guidelines. This is required by neighborhood ordinance and any exterior changes require a permit and review.
The original heart pine windows were painted shut and were supposed to be freed up to allow operation. The carpenter wanted to repair the windows but was not allowed to. Instead Mr. Pitts instructed his men to cut the counterweights and use a crowbar to pry the windows from the frames, breaking the rails. They had removed and damaged six windows before I stopped the damage and required him to repair the damaged windows. He was planning to use salvage windows that did not fit as replacements.
The original, large, 1940s cast iron Deco style sink was also making noise and required repair. I planned to have it refinished. Instead of repairing it per the contract, Mr. Pitts removed the sink and replaced it with the least expensive small ceramic sink he could find and fitted it with cheap plastic fixtures. He claims he disposed of the original sink but I think he sold it. Similar sinks are sold on eBay for about $200. A new cast iron replacement is $500.
Several other repairs in the contract were never completed.
