Home Inspection
My realtor called at the last minute and advised me that she would not be there, but that the owner would. I worried that the owner, like many owners, would bristle at the home inspector's pointing out all the home's faults. But he didn't, and due to the friendliness and knowledgability of Scott Newman, he was relaxed and proved to be very helpful in providing information, particularly the home's past history. The inspector covered all the main systems (parts that he could see) and the structure and provided me with lots of useful information. He was very good at his job, having been in actual building construction for a number of years, so his comments were supported by experience. He found problems that I had not seen and pointed out areas that I would not consider. He tried all systems (plumbing, electric, etc) and gave the structure a good check-up. When we got to the outside semi-basement enclosure for the hot water heater, he pointed out a handrailing for the stairs that had been used for something else (I will need that hand railing), and other useful information like the size of the floor joists, the width of the boards for the old floor (dating from 1947), and the outside wood storage bin, which opens inside next to one of the fireplaces, for ready use of firewood. The next morning, I received his one=page Hot Sheet, that sheet with the most prominent and necessary problems to be addressed the soonest. What an excellent idea. Never have had this with other Home Inspectors. His full-out report is due to arrive in the mail...he lives in Loris though he works anywhere along the Strand and in Conway. He is a member of the appropriate professional association. He was, as far as I was concerned, the best inspector I've had in all the 40-some years I've been buying houses. I'd definitely use him again.
