When I was visited by the Velux rep yesterday I inquired what is the reasonable cost of these units installed and he indicated $2,500-$3,000 per unit. My cost was $3,000-$4,000 higher than that I even was willing the contractor the benefit of the doubt because I have a steep roof. The crew was here for 1 day with two installers and Chris Manges the owner.
The Velux rep indicated that one of the remotes did not work and replaced my two remotes with a new upgraded remote.
I will say it is my lack of negotiating or bidding other contractors at the cost differential. But the follow customer service to get the units
operational was very poor on the part of the contractor. The Velux rep indicated they have other installers in the Asheville, NC area and when I contacted Daylight Solutions they should have referred me to a more local installer rather than raise my price due to travel distance.
Finally everything is now working
When the team came, Chris immediately started working on the project and gave some instructions to his team, and the installation for very easy and fast. Chris applied the dry wall expertly, and the skylight was beautfiul.
After another drywall sanding the next day, things looked great. On the third day,Chris completed sanding of the drywall and added trim to the skylight to incoporate the ceiling with the skylight. The stained trim was perfect for the other stained trim we had in the room.In fact, the stained trim made the whole project pop with continuity and beauty.
That was it, the process was comeplete in three days. I love the outcome, it is a blessing with lots of light where little light was in the room before.
It makes me smile every time I go into the room, it was just what we needed.
