My wife dropped off our Kenmore Progressive vacuum cleaner for repair after the agitator brush stopped spinning. It's a beltless drive upright so the only thing we knew was it probably wasn't a belt. Vacuum World was nearby so she took it in. When she brought it in the sales/service person immediately told her it probably wasn't worth fixing (this was a consumer reports top rated vacuum 3 years ago) He immediately went into a sales pitch trying to sell her one of the vacuum's on their sales floor. We had agreed to get it fixed if possible rather than buying a new one so she asked him to see if he could fix it. They charged $10 just to take a look at it. She considered that reasonable so she left it with them. After 3 days they called her back and said it was a drive motor and it would cost $108 for the motor and $75 per hour with a 1 hour minimum for labor. Since the vacuum only cost $250 new 3 years ago I decided to take a look at it myself. After doing what I should have done in the first place (opening the manual) I discovered they had a troubleshooting section. It described our problem and said there was a reset button that should be pressed in case the drive motor stopped working... apparently there is a safety feature that stops the motor when it is under unusual strain.. but I digress. I pushed the reset button and voila! My agitator brush started working. Bottom line. Either the tech was lying about our vacuum in order to sell us a new one or he was incompetent as a repair tech when diagnosing our problem. Either way I would not recommend going to Vacuum World for sales OR service.
