They did a decent job however left it with several small details
unfinished- painting the molding, finish trim over sink, etc). They had
a larger job starting and a grand child on the way- which I totally
understood. They stated they could come back in Jan; but being the
realistic person I am told them I couldnt wait that long and would
contract someone else to finish. At that point they got really angry
and left. I feel like their attitude is unprofessional- getting angry
over me saying I didn't want to wait a month for them to finish as well
as bad mouthing other contractors.
Upon further review of the backsplash, I noticed a few tiles were put on backwards. All in all I would not use them again.

I was emailed via Angie's list that someone named Vickie would contact me to arrange a date for service. That never happened. I called before the holidays to pick a start date, no one returned the call. Someone reached out again in January via the Angie's list email service telling me that I needed to call and schedule a start date. I was unable to do so until April. I called the given number in April. A woman answered the phone with a rude, "Hello?"
She did not identify herself or the company, I had to ask if I had the correct number. I identified myself and my purpose for calling. She said she would go back and look at her Angie's list accounts and see if she had time for me. She did not get my phone number. By her tone and overall attitude this is not someone I would feel comfortable having in my home or a company I want to give my money to.

"I have reviewed your statement here and here is where we have a problem as follows: I have never spoken to a Misses only a Mr. Last year, also since then till jan 28th if you look in your angies list email, you will see you where contacted and since Jan. 28th there never been any reply. Also when I myself (Bobby) spoke to a Mr. the conversation was never of any work on the interior but EXTERIOR, and He talked about doing work to the exterior sometime this spring and stated he would call me. My wife spoke to Mr. Last early FALL, and she gave the phone to me, due what he wanted done she didn't understand. You stated you ASSUME you spoke to my wife - VICKY, well if you had you would have been corrected on the spelling since she always asked how its spelt, also she would NEVER been rude to someone she never spoke to. But, I tried to talk to you very Professionally and you Spoke to Me, VERY RUDE AND VERY SHORT, when I still don't know who you are and what was going ON. I tried to figure out what was wrong, but you kept saying you Assumed it was Vicky, You assumed someone in our company answered the phone, you assumed it was someone else. One, I would never talk to anyone on the phone as you stated, nor would she. But now I am very Upset with this review you posted, Not Only is it Wrong, But uncalled for. My first comment is not a reflection of Simply Interior as much as Angie's List Big Deal. It was difficult for me to gauge how much painting work I should specify in my request (all work to be stated up front, per the deal). I calculated how long it took for my wife and I to complete other painting jobs around the house that were not as technically complex as painting a stairway. It turns out that I could have requested another room to be painted which would have made my deal more valuable. As is, I think I paid approximately the standard rate for the job - only a significant portion of that payment went to Angie's list, and not to the contractor.
Bobby and Vicki showed up on time, as promised. They were prepared to complete the job and had all the equipment needed.
I supplied paint in two colors and indicated where each was to be used. They did an excellent job on the cut lines. They only remained on site for about 4 hours (8 man hours) because that's all the work I had prepared. During the job, Bobby pointed out some wall damage and offered to quote the repair if desired - he described the damage and the repair, he was not pushy about getting additional contract work.
Some of the wall areas did need a second coat with a roller - but that was easy enough for me to accomplish the following day.
Initially I was disappointed because I only used half the offered time and thought they could have done a second coat. On reflection, latex paint, for all its technological advances, still takes several hours to completely dry between coats and it is unrealistic to think that a second coat can be applied in a single day (2 painters for one day). Had I insisted they attempt, I'm pretty sure the first coat would simply have gotten tacky and peeled off - and that would have been a mess.
At the end of the day - Simply Interior did appreciable work. The details of the deal I purchased skews my review because I don't think anyone could have done an "excellent" job in a single day given the nature of paint and materials, so I am giving them an overall "good" rating. If the deal was set up to span two half days rather than one full, I probably would be rating them higher.
Reading some of the other reviews - I think some customers have inflated expectations of the quality vs. quantity of work that
can be accomplished in a single day by two painters. If you have multiple rooms, ceilings, intricate woodwork, or other technical challenges you really need to avoid a coupon package that is designed to build a customer base and just hire someone to do the job who can commit to coming out and quoting the work so there are no surprises and you'll get what you want. I think a lot of the more negative reviews are as much a reflection of the customer as the contractor.

The experience was a mixed bag. There was some confusion over what the contract called for. Bobby of Simply Interior thought it was for 4 hours for 2 people, and not 8 hours for 2 people. I didn't really know how long it would take for them to do the room that I wanted them to work on, but when they got here, they looked at the job, and after having reservations about the roof, they decided to go ahead. They decided to use a roller on it, and they didn't have any spray equipment, although I had discussed with Bobby that it was a popcorn ceiling. When they got here, they were complaining, because they were doing this through Angie's List, they were giving away half of their fee. I asked them if they were saying that they no longer use Angie's List. I asked them if they were not happy, why were they using Angie's List, because obviously it was bringing them customers. He calmed down after some time, and said that he would do it. There were something about the way they operated, that I would not expect. They said they had put two coats of paint on the walls, and probably they did, but at one time, they locked the doors while they were in there, probably because they had ladders in front of it, I don't know. I brought them some masking tape, because they hadn't put up any masking at all, and I had told them that we had stained casing on the windows, and stained baseboard. I brought them some tape, to keep the baseboard from getting any spatters, and they said they had tape, but when I checked after they left, which was 4 hours after they got here, I saw they had not put any tape on the baseboard. They left some spots on the ceiling which they said had to dry, and they didn't offer to come back the next day. I paid them 50 Dollars an hour each for 2 people and 4 hours. I had other work in that room, that they could have done, but we did not discuss the woodwork. They did get all of the services that we had talked about. I don't think it was a big deal, I paid the same price, and I would not hire them again. They are not telling me what they are doing when they are doing it. My wife and I discussed it, and they are probably going to do a major portion of the job as it is supposed to be done. They were reluctant to do the ceiling because it is a popcorn ceiling, and I was willing to take the hazards of doing a pop corn ceiling, and I told him yesterday that he was going to paint a popcorn ceiling, and he told me that he would have to use a spray painter. He arrived today without a spray painter, so that kind of pinned us in a corner. We decided to go ahead with it, rather than tell them that we wanted to abort the whole deal. We were a little disadvantaged, because they didn't come to look at the job. If I was Angie's List, I would tell them that part of the deal will be to go and look at the job in advance. It tells you a lot about this company, and granted they are not a Cadillac company, and they depend a lot on Angie's List for customer, but I would back off from them. They are not an A or B rating company. I paid full price, I didn't get any discount. I did not get any bargain, and I did not get to discuss the job before it was done. They did not deliver for Angie's List, or for me. I won't use them in the future, and I don't think that Angie's List should be using them because they arrived here complaining that they were losing money. It's a whole bait and switch idea for some of these contractors, they are hoping to get more work when they get here.

"I am really tired of people posting half the truth or story! First off the following: 1. I told you that all textured ceilings should be sprayed your answer: No to much of a mess, just roll it ( this was on the phone) You failed to tell us on the phone that the ceiling was a survivor of hurricane HUGO and the texture was falling off the ceiling! I also told you that rolling it was a high risk and could turn into a mess Your comment: Its ok I have can texture I will fix it when you get done, I quote 2. There was no complaining about anything, we found talking to you to be risky due you wanted to snap and you knew about painting for 26 years, and kept telling us. 3. We informed you that all your wood trim was covered with paint from the last person who painted it, Your comment: I know, I saw it there. Note: Due to the nature you where acting we took pictures of the entire room and trim just for this reason 4. We have no control how long or how quick rooms get done, some take long some go fast. But for what we got paid to do the room, and the work we did, it still took to long. That is the chance you take when buying the Big Deal, since we have no clue what we are getting into till we are there, and that package doesn't cover our time to travel 1 hour one way to just look at it! 5. About the Hours: There was NO CONFUSSION PERIOD, you thought we where going to work 16 hours for 2 people and I corrected you. I know how the Big Deals work. You Also thought we where going to do everything in the house . But we do ONLY what YOU REQUEST TO HAVE DONE. Nothing More. we painted everything you asked, and even touched up two spots in the next room on the ceiling for you."

They are outstanding. They are neat, professional, and honest. They did a good job. I have used them many times. I'm going to use them again i have more work coming up in April. I feel very comfortable with them I know they will do a great job. I have some outside painting and repairs to be done that I would love for them to do. As soon as the ice and the snow goes away I would love for them to come and finish the work. I will even offer for them to stay in my cabin instead of the back and forth traveling, thats how much i trust them and Love the work they do! They are very honorable, I can trust them with my home I dont have to worry about them breaking things or not cleaning up behind themselves. I have dealt with some conniving people here in Carolina and this group of young men are different!

Fantastic. They were professional, reliable, and experienced.
We were set to paint the dining room all one color and the team advised us to consider a two-tone look (separated by already present chair rail molding), and it looks beautiful. They basically gave us design advice which was spot-on. As first time home-owners we really appreciated the overall education we got from them.
Most importantly, the painting is extremely well-executed, and they went above and beyond to fix all of our nail holes and wall defects before painting. We will definitely use them again!

"We are a little dissapointed ourselves. we are sorry that the day Glo Orange wasnt the color you really wanted that you had made. The reason for the one ladder is we had only 2 ft to work around the room since all the furniture was in the center of the room. One took top the other did the bottom. pretty standard practice in all paint worlds. Also note that the room was freshly painted by someone else and we caulked all the cracks that where left and we did putty holes. The smoke breaks you call where not smoke breaks, but called paint breaks, due we had to hand paint the three(3) coats by hand due to all the wood trim. All these historical homes have runs, brush marks, from being painted 100 times over the past 100 plus years. The misses inspected and found some holidays, and we corrected, and said everything looked good, she just wasnt sure about the color. We offered to repaint if she wanted another color. She said she will see if it grew on her. But, we feel we did a great job and even took pictures. We are sorry also that you where upset that you got your days confused and snapped at vicky. its ok any way. Butb we still enjoy our customers and try our best to please, cant always hit the target all the time."

They were very good in their communication! This has been a great experience all around! All materials left over after the job was completed were left with me, as I paid for the materials. I could not be more satisfied with this company! They are fantastic and would rather give you the truth upfront(sometimes you don't want to hear it!) rather than lie and deal with the fallout later. They even make sure that you are completely satisfied before they leave the job! I would highly recommend this company!

I signed up and pre-paid Angieslist for this 2 painters for one day. I needed 2ceilings painted 2days before we were moving into our new home. I spoke to a woman that called me back after receiving the angieslist notification that I bought one of the "big Deals" this was on sept. 26th. We scheduled the job to be done on 10-22-2013 at9:00am. I drove 45 minutes to meet her and she NEVER showed up. NEVER returned my calls for 4days. Amgieslist was able to give me a full credit. I did find a painter by calling Sherwin Williams. He was great. She knew for 3 weeks and still has NEVER called. Do not take a chance on this person. Pat Broghamer

"First off, you where called and we informed you we had an emergency , and we informed EVERYONE Via email! We also contacted Angies List and told them the same and we also asked Angies List would they please follow up on the people we had to cancel with. They stated yes! You never read any of your emails in Angies List, then we where contacted you cancelled and we also informed a agent to get you full credit. About waiting 45 minutes for us, that would have been impossible due the date you are talking of we where rushing to the Airport. This will be followed up with Angies List since Our agent Dropped the ball on our request for help with Customers. That being said has us upset and disapointed!!!! But if you would just been patient as the others that we had to cancel on last second you would have gotten a beautiful job as well. A family member was in a horrible car crash!"

It went very smoothly, they worked very quietly and efficiently. We didn't even know they were there. They did a beautiful job. Our neighbor came over and thought they did a great job as well, so it is not just us saying that. They cleaned up beautifully, were neat and clean and offered great advice.

Bobby and Vicky were great to work with. Their prices were very reasonable and they got the work completed sooner than I had anticipated. They were both courteous and helpful throughout the process, giving me honest advice on any issues they noticed while painting the house. I have referred them to quite a few clients and colleagues and all have had very good results. I have added Bobby and Vicky to my database and will not hesitate to recommend them again.

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. I had originally hired Terry and Vicky Stringer when they were called Magnolia Construction because they told me that that could do my project with ease and save me a lot of money. They started on my house in late June and walked off the project on October 29th without completing the project and they were paid a lot of money in which a lot items still need
to be completed and now I am going to have to get someone else to finish the project. It has been a long road with them and I am writing this review because no one should have to endure the nonsense and disrespect that me and my family had to go through during this process.

After interviewing other contractors to finish the job that was not completed
by Terry and Vicky Stringer it was brought to my attention that the building
practices that were used were outdated and excessive. Every single contractor
told me that that there was no reason why the job should have taken so long and
there were a lot of things that could of being done a lot more effectively and
should not have cost me so much money.
After I just saw the response back from the Stringers you can see the tone that
these two carry onto a project and I don't think anyone would want to have
their families subject to the disrespect they bring to one?s home not to
mention the lack of work ethic. It was very hard to see progression in the
project when the they would continue to fire any help that was brought onto the
project. When I hired them I was told that they would have a small crew with
them which I was happy about, however, they do not have a crew. Their idea of getting
help is to place an ad on Craig?s list and then under pay them significantly
and treat them horribly. There were numerous people they went through and I witnessed
firsthand the disrespect that both of them showed toward the help.
It is very hard to work with contractor when they continue to shorten their
work week and you are continuing to pay them. Bottom line, when it is told to
the customer that they will be on the job site to work bright and early and
they do not call or notify the customer and the customer is trying to get hold
of them and they avoid the calls that is not the type of contractor you want
working for you. Also when they are confronted about their work schedule they
will tell you that "They work for themselves" I don't how that works
when you paying for someone to do job, they should have enough courtesy and respect
to their customer and give them an explanation and not be so abrasive. As a business owner, Vicky could not
understand professional and/or common courtesy, but wanted to call her customer
childish. Again, these are the type of
people you dealing with if you decide to hire them.
Also, Do not get tricked into their low price. Once they get on the project
they will exploit you and the cost of the project. We were severally taken
advantage of and I do not wish this on anyone. I am just happy that they are no
longer working on my house and I have found an honest person to complete the
project and he has crew are willing to work and not make excuses and continue
to nickel and dime me and my family.
I also later found out that Vicky and Terry Stringer have continued to change the
name of their company for the past 3-4 years. I am not sure if this because they
have done to this to others and are trying to hide, but it seems to be a strong
possibility

First off
the above information is Fraud!
we where
in the hospital with our daughter who is 9 months and was outraged we where not
at
his
house. We told him the situation and he Stated thats not his problem, and if
this was true
why didnt
we call him. i told him we where not thinking about him at 3 am and nor where
we
while we
where with our daughter.
After we
got our daughter home and rested, we went out, and stated his nasty messages
and
texes
where uncalled for and he said is that a problem, and we said yes and he told
us to leave.
First-
The owner was his own contractor
second -
He bought all his own materials
Third- He
pulled his own Permit
fourth-
He hired people to do different fields
Fifth- We
tolerated a very childish man, and endless childish fits, we have been stressed
over is
actions,
and calls till 11 pm at night because he was out of town and accused us of not
doing
anything
while he was gone.
And it
was at night. Texed late at night with nasty comments. Then in am texed saying
he was
sorry he
didn't see what we had done.
We have
tolerated all the childish behavor we could take, lies, threats. I have never
in my life
had the
misfortune to work with such a nasty , disrespectful human in my life. And we
would
suggest
any other workers not have anything to do with this man. He can NOT be TRUSTED.
He
changes
Contracts to fit his needs and wants, and pays what he feels he should only
pay. Like
not
paying to have his roof done.
But above
not surprised with the lies and distorting the truth! And no respect for family
emergencies,
and only caring what he can get! And the FACT: He told us to leave, because he
had a problem with our
Daughter going into LABOR on his DIME.
11/7/13-
After interviewing other contractors to finish the job that was not completed
by Terry and Vicky Stringer it was brought to my attention that the building
practices that were used were outdated and excessive. Every single contractor
told me that that there was no reason why the job should have taken so long and
there were a lot of things that could of being done a lot more effectively and
should not have cost me so much money.
After I just saw the response back from the Stringers you can see the tone that
these two carry onto a project and I don't think anyone would want to have
their families subject to the disrespect they bring to one?s home not to
mention the lack of work ethic. It was very hard to see progression in the
project when the they would continue to fire any help that was brought onto the
project. When I hired them I was told that they would have a small crew with
them which I was happy about, however, they do not have a crew. Their idea of getting
help is to place an ad on Craig?s list and then under pay them significantly
and treat them horribly. There were numerous people they went through and I witnessed
firsthand the disrespect that both of them showed toward the help.
It is very hard to work with contractor when they continue to shorten their
work week and you are continuing to pay them. Bottom line, when it is told to
the customer that they will be on the job site to work bright and early and
they do not call or notify the customer and the customer is trying to get hold
of them and they avoid the calls that is not the type of contractor you want
working for you. Also when they are confronted about their work schedule they
will tell you that "They work for themselves" I don't how that works
when you paying for someone to do job, they should have enough courtesy and respect
to their customer and give them an explanation and not be so abrasive. As a business owner, Vicky could not
understand professional and/or common courtesy, but wanted to call her customer
childish. Again, these are the type of
people you dealing with if you decide to hire them.
Also, Do not get tricked into their low price. Once they get on the project
they will exploit you and the cost of the project. We were severally taken
advantage of and I do not wish this on anyone. I am just happy that they are no
longer working on my house and I have found an honest person to complete the
project and he has crew are willing to work and not make excuses and continue
to nickel and dime me and my family.
I also later found out that Vicky and Terry Stringer have continued to change the
name of their company for the past 3-4 years. I am not sure if this because they
have done to this to others and are trying to hide, but it seems to be a strong
possibility

Couple of People at Angie's List gave me some really Great advice. 1. There is NOT one Contract with My name Terry Stringer on anything with you, or anything period signed by myself, since I dont Own magnolia construction, or have ANY Say in it. 2. You DO NOT have any Contract with any signature of $50,000. or a total LABOR ONLY ! Since that's all was GIVEN 3. Per original agreement: Home Owner to supply ANY & ALL Needed Materials, Period 4. You Paid IN FULL for the Painting of the Home, And Posted a Excellent Review, then two weeks later took it out, to post this garbage, 5. YOU Pulled YOUR OWN Permits, Yet all where signed of for inspections, funny all inspections pass, yet you say out dated building practice, Yet it LOOKS JUST LIKE THE DRAWINGS! 6. You knowingly Know since you stated it to us that we lost 6 weeks due to the Engineer, remember the one you wanted to beat his head in with a sledge hammer, because he didn't stop everything for you, and emailed him to death and left endless messages. 7. About hiding Something, LOL. First off your the only one hiding anything, The Truth! 8. You Huffed And Puffed and told Vicky pack her stuff and leave, Period. All due we rushed our 8-1/2 month pregnant daughter to the hospital, rather be at your house, or called you first, You stated all this in a text, But, you know we really don't care what you put here, as your spouse told mine, ignore your antics, as we all know you apologized twice (2) for the same antics. 9. There where NO SURPRISES : Since you had over 6 weeks to look over a FLAT PRICE, LABOR ONLY 10. You VOIDED The first agreement and altered the one my wife did, and majorly altered COSTS for your own personal Gain. 11. You where responsible for hiring any and all needed subs, Including the ROOFER . Wife took care it and never was paid for Labor , PLEASE NOTE ALL PUBLIC VIEWERS, THE OWNERS STATED A $50,000.00 JOB, YET PERMIT STATES $15,000.00 ALSO NOTE SIGNED OFF APPROVALS AND NAME PERMIT IS IN. Well, We LOVE working with all our HAPPY Angie's List Customers!"

Terry replaced a bathtub with walk-in shower tiled walls & floors, painted walls. It's been 3 years--the work is still functional and beautiful.

He did an excellent job. He is very punctual, very professional, very knowledgeable and does exactly what he says he's going to do and charges exactly what he said he will. He's a good guy and I would use him again. I would say his prices are reasonable, the other quotes were in the ball park.
