I joined Angie's List to find someone trust worthy and dependable to fix what should have been done to begin with. I found someone and I wished that I had checked out Angie's List the first time instead of trying to help out someone who "needed the money". I will add that Andy called and "apologized" for hanging up on me. He "reminded" me he did me a favor and quoted a low price, plus it took them more days than anticipated but he was willing to come over that afternoon to check out the leaks. I told him I did not want him over at all, that I could not depend on him, that he was the one that quoted the price, not me requesting the particular amount and as far as taking longer to do the work, I certainly could not help weather issues nor the fact they had no knowledge of putting up a lawn building. I told him I had found someone else to do the work for me. He stated that it would not go over $50.00 and that he would be willing to pay me the $50.00 because of my inconvenience. I told him I would not discuss the price that I was quoted and that I may get back with him. To anyone who reads this, please do not not hire out someone just because they go to a friends church and they need the money.
Description of Work: About the first of July I asked a special friend if he knew anyone that could put up a lawn building (shed) for me and put in a new floor. I had purchased the building about the end of June. He said he knew someone from his church that did odd jobs. He said he had not done anything for him but he said this guy did work for others in the church, that he would contact him and see if he could or would be able to put it together for me and build the new floor. I explained I was in no hurry since it was so very hot, that I could wait until the end of September or first of October. On July 6th he came over with his friend from the church, Andy Felker and Jeff Lindsley. We discussed what I needed, they evaluated the flooring and cost of putting up the building and came up with the price of $600.00 plus, of course, materials needed. He asked for cash however, I explained I would not pay him until the work was done. I also told them that I was not interested in starting this until the weather cooled down. Andy said they would like to start on it now since they needed the extra money. Jeff said he could start unloading the current building now and they could begin the floor after they tear it down, probably tomorrow! I was not prepared for this but Andy said they needed the money so I agreed to start today, July 6th. They both said that it would be completed by Saturday, July 9th, and included hauling off the old flooring and old building. They explained up front that they would not be able to work at all on Thursday due to another job on James Island but they would be here very early Friday morning. We shook hands on the dollar amount and time frame. (Unless rain delay). I was not given any written estimate for labor nor materials. Jeff unloaded the building while Andy went to a building supply to price materials (lumber, etc.) When Andy returned, he brought his son with him to help and by the late afternoon, the building was unloaded, torn down, and the old floor was ripped up and all hauled off. Andy asked me for 1/2 of the agreed upon amount and I paid him $300.00 cash as he requested. I told him I would not pay him the rest until the building was done. He said he understood. They got a late start Friday as it was raining but they did come around 10:30. Andy had to leave again to go purchase the materials after he got the prices Wednesday. He got back around noon and started working on the floor. They completed the floor and some parts assembled and by 5pm they left, saying they would be back Saturday morning. They came about 8:30 and began working on the building and worked until about 5pm. It had begun a light rain, but cooling so they continued to work since there was no lightening. The building was up and almost completed, just a few places needed screws and some caulking and then I could start reloading it back when completed. They told me that they do not work on Sunday up front, so I knew they would not be back until Monday. Andy then asked me for the remaining 1/2 of the money. I told him I was reluctant to give it to him since everything was not complete. He said he understood but that they needed the money. Since everything was up and only a few screws needed and some caulking remained to be done, I went ahead and paid the remaining agreed upon amount of $300.00 in cash. The rain continued up through Sunday morning. When it stopped, I went out and checked the building to see if there were any leaks and THERE WERE MANY. I got a majic marker and marked all the places there was water on the building, plus puddles in the floor. Andy came over about 8am and I showed him all the marks where there had been leaks. He was by himself, started plugging the areas with caulking and aluminum tape and finished by 3pm or rather he left at 3pm. He said I could start moving my things back into the building and they both would be back to help me get the heavy stuff tomorrow plus put somehting down on the front lip so floor would not rot. Andy and Jeff came back later afternoon to haul off some stuff and I gave them a metal drawer cabinet plus a steel table that I did not want. They said they would be back by on Tues. to get the rest of the trash they promised they would haul off for me. They did come back early Tuesday morning and hauled off remaining trash. On August 4th, when I returned from a 10 day vacation I decided to check out the building and see if there were any more leaks and if all had been fixed.. It had rained several days I was gone. When I opened the doors.....there were puddles of water on all three sides of the building! The front doors were also damp but assumed that was from wind blowing the rain inside. since I was going out of town again the very next day, I had to wait until I returned to call Andy and ask that he come back over to redo and check out the many leaks that were still there. I called Andy around 9am on Friday Aug 12th. He said he would be by early Saturday, Aug 13th. I waited on his call until 11:30 and I called him. He said he was in St. Stephen on a big job, that he was going to call me but got tied up, however he would be by Monday morning early. (He does not work on Sunday) No Andy by 8am on Aug 15th so I waited until 8:30 and I called him. He said he was busy and on another job and could not drop things and come by! He said he "probably" would try and come by either that afternoon or the next day. I told him I needed a firm time that I would not stay at home and wait on him for an unknown time with a "probably" since he had promised me 2 other occasions. I told him I paid him good money to put up this building correctly and HE HUNG UP ON ME!
