"This is a harsh review! As the president/owner of Delex Tree Company, Inc myself and my team, pride ourselves in providing quality tree service. We offer a range of services from tree removal, weight reduction, house clearance, supplemental cabling, to mention only a few. As I have reviewed all of our previous invoices and proposals for prior work that has been done it has been determined that we as a company, HAVE NEVER GIVEN A PROPOSAL TO MR. [Member name removed] NOR HAVE WE EVER DONE A SERVICE FOR HIM. He called us for an estimate and requested this be done over the telephone. I explained to him that in our line of work this is not possible. This was my only communication with this gentleman. We regret the negative review with only a phone call interaction, and yet we know we have not done work for Mr. [Member name removed]. We look forward to continuing to serve the upstate including the the Mauldin area. We will continue providing ongoing quality tree service. It is evident by our other reviews on Angie's list that our record says it all!!!"
I called Leonard on the recommendation from a local landscape architect to see if he was interested in the job I had. He happened to be in the area and said he would be over in 30 minutes. We looked over the job and I soon found out that Leonard was an arborist, not just someone who had bought a chain saw and decided to start a tree cutting business. He was very knowledgeable about my specific tree, which was not a common tree for the area. When he left, I had a written estimate with a separate line item for each of the two jobs and a third line item that was an option for cutting down and removing the tree.
The written estimate was followed up with an email that contained a formal estimate and a copy of his insurance... I didn't even have to ask for the proof of insurance. I replied to the email and called Leonard and we scheduled a date for him to come perform the work. We scheduled the work for 8:00 am the next Tuesday... no waiting!
When Tuesday came, there was rain in the forecast and it was drizzling outside. I got a text at 7:45 am stating that he would be postponing the work until 10:00 am. I really appreciated the notice... so many times contractors don't show and I'm left waiting around, missing work.
Leonard and one helper arrived and got right to work on pruning the deadwood out of the tree. They finished in about 4 hours, the tree looked great and everything was cleaned up and hauled off. Later that day, Leonard sent another helper to grind the stump and by the time I got home from work, both jobs had been completed.
There were lots of small things that Leonard did that impressed me. 1) I had paid Leonard on the day he performed the work (I checked in on my lunch break), but I still received a phone call the next morning to make sure that everything was OK. 2) They also dropped a small branch on a pole light that was underneath the tree and it knocked the cap off the light. Even though I told him that the cap was already broken before he arrived, he insisted on replacing it. 3) Leonard also offered me tips on how to properly plant the Magnolia tree.
All in all, I will say that I was very impressed with this company. They have been added to my list of contractors that will be used again in the future and that I will recommend to friends.
"Thanks Mrs [removed member name] for the opportunity to allow our company to help you for your landscaping needs as well as tree service. We hope to have you as a future client, such wonderful hospitality you showed us. Sincerely, Delex Tree Compnay Inc."
Leonard's team truly presented themselves as professionals. They each understood their roles and carried them out very well. Leonard, himself, climbed and topped a tree that was within 4 feet of our fence and within about 15 feet of our house. He was very methodical, taking one step at a time and it appeared that not even one twig landed in a place other than where he had planned. It was also clear that the safety of he and his crew was Leonard's first priority. They were all outfitted with the right equipment and Leonard even called down one of his guys from the top of the tree for having removed his safety glasses for a minute to wipe sweat from his face.
Once the trees were down, the team cleaned the area so meticulously, I was tempted to tell them they had done enough and to stop them.
Just a side note....the largest tree contained a squirrel's and when Leonard cut the top out of the tree, baby squirrels were found in the nest. Without any hesitation or discussion, one of the guys gently picked up the nest and placed it in his hardhat, followed by each of the babies and transported them to an area in which they had seen the mom.
If I ever have tree work to be done in the future, I won't bother to call Leonard's competitors for estimates. He has earned my business!
This is one impressive outfit!
