"Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s husband [Member Name Removed] purchased a grill and ventilation hood from the "Outdoor Living Sales Center" retail store. We printed and provided her husband prior to his purchase all the manufactures literature and installation instructions for the grill and ventilation hood as they had ANOTHER company building the outdoor kitchen for them as the husband told us he charged way less! Hmmm?? The installer is a framing carpenter who told us he isn't an outdoor kitchen builder but was doing this project for them. Both her husband and the installer came to the store multiple times to take measurements of the actual grill prior to starting construction and we provided them multiple times all the written documentation on installation, set up and appropriate use for the grill and ventilation hood straight from the manufacturer prior to their purchase. As a retailer "only" we don't get involved with individual aspects of their projects like where they are putting it. No different than Lowes selling you a grill. Retail stores sell grills and don't build kitchens. Outdoor Living Sales Center is a retail sales store and was not involved in designing or building of the grill and ventilation hood. Lastly, ProCare is not associated in any form, fashion or ownership with Five Star Sunrooms. This can be verified through the S.C. Secretary of State website. In sum, Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s husband and the builder were provided all the documentation needed to safely determine if the grill and ventilation hood were correct for their application. We are sorry for the difficulties experienced but it falls outside of the responsibility of a retail store."
"We take customer satisfaction seriously and we are sorry to have disappointed you. I believe their was some confusion as to time frame to start the job vs. time frame to complete the job. Based on our back log of work most of our projects of your type have a start date of 6-8 weeks from signing of the contract, weather permitting of course. This 6-8 weeks shouldn't be confused with the actual time to complete the project after it is started. The time to complete the project is different for each project and is based on complexity, and scope of the project, weather, and the length of time it takes for the appropriate jurisdiction to inspect each phase of the work. We are often at a standstill while we wait for the inspector to arrive which can cause unforeseen delays. Same way with the weather, the only usually cold and wet winter also has an adverse affect on the time it takes to complete a project. Having said all that, we sincerely apologize for not meeting your expectations and we will take your feedback seriously to ensure future customers better understand the time schedule from signing of the contract all the way through completion."
Our fence started to warp almost immediately after installation, but we assumed this was normal. 6 months later we had a warped deformed mess that was visible to our entire neighborhood. We had 6x6's that were turned, 4x4's that were turned almost 90 degrees, 80% of a 90 foot section was worthless. I had paid Pro-Care $2200 for this, and an additional $1000 for another company to stain it. I called Chris Breen, the owner, and he promptly responded and came out to look at the job. He admitted it was the worst he had ever seen, we must have gotten "bad wood", and that he would "make it right". Fast forward 6 months. Chris still had not "made it right", claiming that no wood structure is warrantied against warpage and I basically needed to suck it up. He had been unable to get his supplier or manufacturer to reimburse him, so he felt it was fair to leave me hanging out to dry. All of this after 6 months of going back and forth on his commitment to fix what he started and replace what was obviously not a normal defect. He did offer at one point to provide the labor if I purchased materials for the repair, which I declined. Why would I pay twice for a fence installation that the contractor admits is "the worst that he's ever seen"?
Did I mention that I had already referred another fence job to him (right after the initial build), which he had completed, thus adding more to his bottom-line then the cost of this repair?
Finally, after preparing to take Mr. Breen to small claims court, he very reluctantly agreed to replace the boards that he felt were an issue. He was very rude in person when he was here, never once taking the high road as the professional and I felt I had to constantly remind him I was only holding him to the commitments he made both verbally, and over email to fix this project.
He gave direction to his crew to ONLY fix the boards that were absolutely unusable. They replaced 80% of one side, and several boards, posts, cross-beams through out the rest of the fence. The guys that actually did the work were again terrific, staying until very late in the evening to finish the job.
It's amazing to me how a company with Pro Cares size and reputation can let what was probably a $500 cost repair, ruin one customer's opinion of them, which I have shared diligently with all my friends and co-workers.
First Angie's List report:
It was excellent. They got the job done very quickly once they started (after a slight delay). Thomas was great with communicating and getting everything cleaned up. There was an issue with the gate but they came out and fixed it immediately. Chris, the owner, is very responsive to all inquiries.
