Eddie did not pay many of the subcontractors. Several quit. One threatened a lien on the house. Two contractors showed up after we moved in demanding I pay them. We have had issues with the house that should be covered. Damaged floors due to plumbing issue, etc.. That he admitted he should cover but he's $150k in debt. He was the worst part of our building experience. Very little attention to detail. I was on the site almost everyday. They literally were putting up walls where walls didn't exist in the plans. But they hadn't seen Eddie in days, probably because he didn't pay them and didn't want an argument. After our house, Eddie advertised more and he built three other house in our neighborhood. They have had big problems with him to. There are also several lawsuits against Ed. Do yourself a favor and don't build with this contractor. We made that mistake. There are much better contractors out there.
Response from Howard Custom Builders, Inc./Ed Howard
"All lies. Every contractor got paid. Mr. [Member Name Removed] did his own landscaping and then tried to force me and the grading guy to regrade his lot and install a drain system to correct the landscaping. The damaged floors were caused by his appliance installer who had a refrigerator water pipe leak at the valve connection. Glens Plumbing went to the site, found the leak was not plumbing related, but relocated the valve complimentary for the homeowner, without charge, but we both refused to replace 200 sq.ft. of hardwood flooring damaged by the leak. We both suggested he file a homeowner's insurance claim, but he was determined to try to make someone else pay for it. I've built 5 houses in that same subdivision from $450k-900k and all the other homeowners love their homes and are always willing to show their homes when I request. When building Mr. [Member Name Removed] home, I gave and gave trying to make him happy, but finally lost money. I still finished it, but he appreciated nothing, just wanted more. I didn't get sued for anything on his house. He wanted to save a little money by handling his own appliances, then tried to throw the responsibility for the repair on me and the plumber."

My experience with Howard Custom Builders was great. It's a calculated risk picking a contractor but I felt comfortable working with Eddie Howard from the very first meeting.

The most important things are that he did what he said, was (still is) very responsive, stayed within budget and finished on schedule. When issues did arise (my house is quite old and there were a couple of unexpected surprises) he was calm and reasonable and did no work until we agreed upon the scope and price.

The workmanship is wonderful and comments I receive from friends are that the addition looks like it has always been here, very much the original style of the house and a quality job.

I am very happy and would (and have) recommend Eddie Howard if you are looking for a contractor.

We interviewed and got prices from three contractors.  We based our decision not on price but upon the impression that Eddie made with us.  He was the only contractor that took the time to listen to us and to understand what we really wanted and then, ultimately, to deliver the finished product that we wanted.  From the beginning we felt that Eddie wanted to be our partner in the project, where other contractors tried to sell us what they wanted to build.  He was always open to suggestions for changes that we wanted to make along the way and we feel that he truly went out of his way to make us happy in the end.
Getting in touch with Eddie was as simple as sending him a text message.  He would always respond within a very short time and would be onsite quickly if needed.
Since he completed our porch, we have recommended Eddie to several of our friends and  he has done, or is doing, projects for them, as well.  I would recommend Eddie because of his work ethic, his honesty and integrity and the quality of his work which he fully stands behind.  We feel that we got incredible value for the money we spent.  Besides all that, he is just a nice person.
