Weather delays made the job take longer than I would have liked, but the men were on time, extremely friendly and very professional.  I asked for their expertise with a few things regarding the fencing and I thought their ideas were good.  The fence looks great and they cleaned up each day so i wasn't left with soda cans or trash in the yard.  I actually hired them back for a second time to add wooden steps off my deck.  Chris stopped each time to check on the work and to see if I was pleased with the job.  I highy recommend Whittier.  Great job and i would definitely hire them again.

We contacted Fence and Deck by Whittier to repair water damage in our front door area. Chris Whittier came to our house in August of 2010. He told us in detail how he would fix the gutters and front door area. We agreed to his estimate and he began work. He found more water damage than he expected and informed us of an additional cost. We agreed and paid. After receiving this money, work on our house slowed to a crawl. In November (two MONTHS into the job) Mr. Whittier e-mailed that the work was finished and asked for the final payment. The work did not appear finished at all. The wood of the door frame was spackled but not painted, the floor was uneven (he had assured us that he would "sand that down and make it level") and the front door did not close correctly. However, we were anxious to be rid of him because he had made some strange comments that the work on our house was taking so long because he had to let some of his workers go because he "did not trust them to be in your house". So, we paid him a portion of the balance owed. We debated what do to about the incomplete work. One week later, during a mild rain, we observed water POURING in our front door. He had actually made the problem WORSE! We called Mr. Whittier to come and look at the mess. The frame of the door was splitting horizontally, and rain was running down the INSIDE of the front door. Mr. Whittier apologized, begged us to let him "make this right" assured us that we would not owe any more money and that he would get right to work fixing the front door, adding weather stripping, flashing, etc. We agreed to this work in good faith hoping that it would at least get us through this winter until we could save enough money to hire someone else to do the work that Whittier had been hired to do. Instead, several weeks passed and his idea of repairs consisted of spackling over some of the damaged areas. No flashing, no weather stripping, etc. On December 15th Mr. Whittier e-mailed us a bill for what he says we "owe" him. The work that was done did not in any way meet the contract that was signed. Not only that, Mr. Whittier admitted to us that he used our home (specifically our 7 year old son's bedroom) as BAIT so that he could catch one of his workers stealing!! (Our son's room is nowhere NEAR where they should have been in our house!) We have photographs to document the poor quality/incomplete work and have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in our area. We are considering further action at this time. PLEASE BEWARE!!
