Called roto rooter, they came out on a sat, which was good.
Here is the thing, they told me 160/hr and thereafter 15 min increments for the billing, I said fine.
When we finally tallied up it took 2.5 hrs, or 430 us dollars to diagnose the problem. Understand no work was done towards fixing the problem yet. So i am into it for 430 dollars just to tell me what's wrong. Additionally the tech could not get his camera , they put a camera into the pipe, he could not tell me the extent of the problem, only the likely site of the break in the main.
I do not think it should take 2.5 hrs to diagnose a drain problem.
They promptly sent out a specialist to evaluate the problem, whether or not to tear up the floor to fix it , or as the previous tech , to his credit, suggested , the possibility of tying in to existing drains nearby.
They quoted me 970 us dollars to to ty in, to do 15 feet of 2 inch drain pipe from the kitchen to the other drain.
At this point I talked to my neighbor, and lucky for me, I had his plumber come out.
Voila!, the work was done for 250, plus he installed my new water heater, ( I bought it, transported it),
So is something up? Umm 970 vs 250?
I realize plumbers get the same wages as attorneys but why the gouge in diagnose and subsequent estimate
VERY dissatisfied with these folks!!
The technician made sure that there were no other jobs he could do before he left.
"Thank you for reaching out. We don't seem to be able to locate your records in our system. Could you please email me with some more details about your experience so that we can address this matter appropriately. My email Is ( [email protected])"
Sunday night, as we were getting ready for bed, the sewer backed up again.
Since the work was supposedly guaranteed I called Roto-Rooter back again on Monday morning. This time i apparently got the Manager who said i was entitled to ONE free followup call under the warranty. Later that afternoon a different technician came and essentially repeated the service that was performed the day before. This time when he was "through" I asked him to flush the line with water from the outside tap which we watched while the camera was in the hole. Almost immediately the water backed up. The technician said he did all he could do because he couldn't get beyond the break. He said we needed to have the line dug up at the break and replaced, and gave me an estimate for over $2,500 to do the work.
I then called Drain Works. Drain Works came out the next day and used a cable to completely clean out the sewer line all the way to the city line in the middle of the street. He then ran a camera with a rubber attachment around the cable that enable it to get beyond the connection with the city line. The "break" Roto-Rotor found was actually a rubberized flexible connection that is commonly used between residential and the city lines. He did find that roots broke into the line about 4 feet beyond the connection. Drain Works charged only $200 to clean the drain, and later repaired the break for $1,2400, at considerably less cost and considerably better results than Roto-Rooter. Roto-Rooter did refund me $390 (leaving me responsible for the wasted $55.00 service call). Moral of this story - DON'T CALL ROTO-ROOTER unless you want to pay way too much for unprofessional results. CALL DRAIN WORKS INSTEAD!
