The most egregious issue was the complete lack of professionalism. Instead of talking through the issues, Chad tried to argue with me and accused me of trying to take advantage of him after voicing my displeasure. He was angry with me and he did not want to hear my issues or come see the problems. Absolutely no effort to work through the problems. The lack of professionalism, communication, and poor quality is why I chose to write a review.
Other than our initial meeting, he never communicated with us to see the job through. He had forgotten a number of points of our conversation and that may have been because he was constantly on the phone during our meeting. It appeared that through out the project Chad was trying to avoid us. At times messages to APS went unanswered during the project. He even sent his mother to pick up the check. The one time I did talk to him is when his crew called him and he answered immediately.
The job took about a month from the day we asked APS to do the work. Not entirely APS's fault as we needed stumps grounded. However, it did take multiple weeks and APS crews to do other jobs. Timing was an issue due to the time of year to spread pre-emergent, fertilizer, and over seed.
We wanted to remove the large bed in front of the home and replace with grass. The bed had 1 dogwood and 9 holly's. We arranged for the yard to be marked for ground lines and had the stumps grounded out. Their crew was suppose to come in and level out the dirt and plant seeds. Unfortunately they left a large indention in the ground and it is not level. They also spread seeds where we specifically said we were going to replant shrubs. He offered to fix it but based on prior job we didn't want to pay again for his mistake.
The installation of the irrigation system was great. Unfortunately this job was subcontracted so it was not APS.
We asked APS to cut our crate and myrtles lower. This job was done by APS in the prior year but they did not get cut back enough. We had visitors question why it was not cut lower. We asked for them to be trimmed back lower this year. This is where we were some how taking advantage of him. He said something to the effect of being contracted to trim the new growth instead of cutting them back.
In the back of the house we asked for trees along the fence line to be trimmed. We reminded him a number of times but that was never done and all new growth is still present. We ended up writing the check so we could be finished with APS.
Initially APS forgot to install the metal edging in rear plant bed . He did come out after us reminding him to do it. However, it is a really bad job. He did not take the edging all the way to the patio, it is uneven, and does not look good. He also said he would put spaces in the edging for water run off but that wasn't done. The edging also looks to high. Again, no explanation and no communication.
We asked APS to pull weeds and lay pine needles along the house and avoid the major areas of the back yard due to cost. The idea was for curb appeal and to look nice when people drove up. We had to run outside and tell his crew not to lay in the back of the property (good thing I was home.) The misplacement of pine needles left a gap on the side of the house by our driveway.
APSs crew did not pull weeds as per contract but instead laid pine needles directly on top. You can still see where the weeds are popping up. It's not new growth and some are 5-6 inches high.
We asked APS to fertilize and lay pre-emergent in the back yard. This was in addition to the contract. He claims this was done but I was not able to see any of the granules. We reluctantly agreed to pay the $45.
We did asked Chad to plant new shrubs but this did not get included on the initial contract. We also asked Chad to come out to plant flowers but he never got back with us. Again, lack of communication.
Based on the quality of work, lack of communication, and unprofessionalism, I would not recommend working with this company.
We contacted APS to assist us in bringing our yard back into shape for the summer. There are more than a few beds which needed weeding, leaf and stick removal, there is damage to the grass, many bushes and trees that needed pruning and the entire property needed mulching. I received a response from Chad that evening and he was out the next day and provided me a quote within 24 hours of my request. Upon my approval, he had a team of about 8 guys in the yard the next morning and they immediately got to work. By that afternoon my yard had been completely transformed. Because we didn't aerate last fall, the grass probably won't fully recover this summer but the neighbors have all commented on how great the yard looks. I've hired Chad to cut and care for the yard going forward. It couldn't have gone better.
