The tech was clean and very polite. He came to the door and told me he would start on the outside unit. I told him he would need a ladder for the inside unit. After he finished cleaning the outside unit he came back with a ladder and booties for his shoes. He cleaned the unit in the attic. He let me know the attic light bulb was burned out and asked me if I would like him to change it while he was up there. He told me my ductwork was in good shape and adjusted a couple dampers. (Our daughter's room wasn't getting enough air flow). He checked the temperature output at a couple vents and in my daughters room after making the adjustment. He checked the calibration of my thermostats.
He did tell me some more insulation would help with my heating and cooling costs.(As the upstairs was warmer due to being on a zone system) He suggested spray foam insulation and said they could send somebody to estimate it for me.

"Good afternoon Mr. [member name removed]., I REALLY appreciate your taking time out to rate our company and our Technician. I always pass each and every comment on to everyone on the team which goes a long way in making us better. If you ever need anything, feel free to call me directly at Mobile # 330-6279 or the office at 851-7676 Thank you again, Jimmy Blanton"
"I will pat the guys on the back for working so hard to get your complete system & ducting replaced in 2.5 days. After completing your system and starting it up, the guys went through the entire job and your yard to make sure everything was clean & tidy. Our goal is to make sure everything is cleaner than what we found it. We also rechecked the system before leaving to make sure everything was working perfect. If you need anything at all, or have any questions, please call me directly at 851-7676 anytime. We really appreciate you choosing Blanton's Mechanical & Sons Jimmy Blanton"
I am extremely disappointed with Blanton's Mechanical's inability to stand behind their work and to make a bad situation right. We may be looking at a whole new AC unit which will be their loss of business. We found another company on Angie's list with just as high a rating but twice as many positive reviews as well as a coupon that makes the leak test come out at half the cost.
I will never use this company again due to their lack of expertise in diagnosing problems and lack of communication. I gave them the opportunity to make the situation right with a compromise and keep our business but they refused.
"Ms. ____, we are saddened that you felt it necessary to give us failing marks for the professional service that we provided but clearly you have us confused with one of the other two service companies that you said you had at your home. On August 8th 2013 we were called by you from California to inspect your system at one of your rental homes in North Charleston. On ticket # 14659 written up by Nathan our Tech, it states in the entirety that “performed complete diagnostic on the system, checked coil, found to be clean, drain clean, no loose wiring, found drain dripping in secondary pan & made repair, duct work was in good shape, megged compressor, checked capacitor: all reading good, checked Freon levels: no adjustments required, and no other issues found. Indoor temperature was 73 degrees with ac supply output temperature at 54 degrees. Tuesday of this week, nearly 9 months later we were called due to the system not cooling in which we in fact found low on refrigerant. This was reported to you explaining that a leak search was required and we could not just add refrigerant because it would all be lost in a few days. At that time, you requested our company perform this leak search and repair for free which unfortunately we could not do. Based on this you felt it necessary to give us failing marks. I apologize for giving you the bad news with the rental ac system, but we always operate in a professional manner and if we at all felt that, a free service was in order; we would surely step up and do the right thing. Best Regards, Jimmy Blanton"
"Thank you very much for your business and always know if you need us any day of the week just give us a call. We do not have an answering service, we will take your call directly. Jimmy b."
The technician was very knowledgeable and thorough. He quickly determined that the reason the AC unit was not working was due to a defective capacitor which he proceeded to replace with a newer capacitor which would be able to withstand higher voltages. After the unit was working, he checked the freon level and made some minor adjustments so that the unit would operate with more efficiency. He made some suggestions on temperature settings and cleaning tips to keep it working in tip top condition.
I was also given a discount for being an Angie's List member.
"Thank you sir very much for the business and the feed back. I love to hear when things goes great and when they don't go as planned so we can keep trying to get better. thanks again, Jimmy Blanton"
"I and all the guys appreciate all the years of business that you have given us. If you ever need anything, Just yell. Thank you, Jimmy"
"It was a pleasure being able to help you. Thank you very much from everybody at Blanton's!"
I had a million questions, and multiple changes to what became the final quote, and Jimmy and Allie and the entire team were so helpful and responsive. I selected Blanton's to do the work, and within a few days they were at the house to do the work. When they come to do the job, they come with a large team which was fantastic! I couldn't believe how quickly they were able to remove the old system, and install the new one. All the folks on the crew were extremely polite, and they did a very professional installation. Our previous installation (from a different contractor) was sloppy, poorly installed, and a general mess. The difference with Blanton's was night and day. Brian, their team lead, was great and answered all of my questions.
From a price standpoint, they beat all the other quotes I got when comparing like models (SEER rating, multiple stages, etc). And the back office folks like Allie will help with any rebates, product registrations, etc.
I would highly recommend reaching out to Jimmy and the crew and Blanton's if you have any HVAC needs!
On January 2nd at 8:40, three crews arrived at our home, with the units on two box trucks and one trailer. They started to work immediately, in the pouring rain, to replace the A/C condensors, which are mounted on top of a 15 foot high platform. A second crew worked to remove the lower story air handler and associated ductwork. The third crew worked in the third floor attic to remove the upper story air handler and ductwork. The old units were taken out to the trucks to be removed. The new units were then installed, connected, and started up. New thermostats were installed and programmed.
All work was completed, clean up was done, and the men left our house at 4:15 PM. on January 2nd!
On January 3, Jimmy and a technician came to our house to inspect all the work, and to replace a cracked pump in an associated piece of equipment (not related to the new units). This was done at no charge. The new plenum dampers were adjusted to make the systems deliver temperatures to each of the rooms to suit the owners' preferences.
I cannot remember ever having a major system replacement go so smoothly in 40 years of home ownership in four different states. The workmanship is superb, the areas are as clean as a pin, the job was done in one day (which I had estimated would take two or three normally). Response was immediate. The workers were pleasant and professional without exception. Allie, the office contact was polite, helpful and knowledgable.
I cannot rate Blanton's Mechanical and Sons highly enough. I cheerfully recommend them to other members, and will use them exclusively in the future.
"Mr. (member name removed), I Really appreciate the kind comments. It was a pleasure doing business with you and your family. If you ever need anything, just let me know. Thanks again, Jimmy"
"Thank you Mr. (Member name removed) for your business! I really gave you the best price that we could and wish the $1,200 could have been less for your new Evaporator Coil and refrigerant. It appears that it has been 3 Years and everything is going good. If it is ever anything that I can do for you, just let me know. Thank you, Jimmy Blanton"
