After B&D's report, AHS ordered new compressor - took three weeks for AHS approval and for compressor to arrive from warehouse across town. B&D waited another week to install it. They charged approximately 3 times the going rate for Freon, which AHS did not cover. Unit had problems starting as soon as B&D left after installation. They came out three more times. Each time, techs were less and less friendly. Service manager was down right hostile, almost threatening. I finally called another company which found a bad electrical connection which they said should have been caught by B&D. It could of caused the house to catch on fire. I would not use B&D again, or AHS for that matter. We were without AC for a month in the SC 90 plus degree heat. Cost of service below includes freon and AHS contract.

I originally had a call on December 23, 2015 for a blank control panel (the technician arrived onetime and was very pleasant).  It was diagnosed that there was a short in the system.  On January 29th 2015 the same problem occurred (blank control panel).  On Monday, February 1, 2016 the Technician arrived and determined that my Surge Protector was bad and he removed the Surge Protector from my system and the system started working again.  He presented me with another bill and told me that it was over 30 days and that I was responsible for payment and I refused.  I called the office on February 3rd and spoke to Danielle (she was extremely rude and disrespectful and this was not the first time that I have encountered this with her) about when to expect the scheduling of my routine maintenance and what was going to happen with my Surge Protector that they removed from my system.  I purchased a maintenance contract from this company (I am really not sure why because it does not seem that anything is covered under it).  After a lot of arguing, she agreed to send a technician out to put the Surge Protector back in (now granite that this is a defective surge protector).  I was just trying to explain to her that the surge protector was covered under the manufactuer warranty.  At this point I asked for the owner to call me and he did.  I explained everything to him (Ken) and he had the same attitude about it as his secretary.  I am extremely dissatisfied with the fact that they do not really care about the customer.  I get the impression that all they care about is the bottom line.  I still have the concern that my system is not working properly.  The first time it was a short.  The second time it was the surge protector.  I have a feeling that something might still be wrong with my system.  I think the original problem still has not been addressed.  What is causing these electrical problems.  What caused the surge protector to go out.  I think a little more trouble shooting and maybe they could find the root of the problem.

After more than a year of problems that another A/C company couldn't diagnose, American Home Shield switched to B and D Heating and Air to figure out why our zone A/C wasn't working. The technician, Tony, spent the time that was needed to test various components of the system until he found what was causing the problem. He was polite, professional, and thorough. He didn't have the thermostats on the truck, so the company set up another time for someone to install them. Today, another technician, Joey, came to install them. The A/C is now working just fine. We are satisfied customers and will request B and D in the future if we have any other A/C problems.

Not well... Since this is the 4th time they have come out since April, this has been a frustrating process to begin with. However each time we are told it is something "new" even though three of the four times, based upon the listing on the invoice...it is the exact same problem. It is just far enough apart that we have to pay a new service fee for each time they come out. The most recent episode occurred when it was 100° out in our upstairs air conditioning unit shut down for the fourth time. Even though the unit was "replaced" 4/15/15. Now two weeks ago the air conditioning unit once again shutdown and it has been 95?100° upstairs. They came out and told us once again that it was a valve that had gone bad, even though it has been replaced three times since August, 2014. They told us that they would need to order apart. It is now been two weeks and we are still waiting. Last Wednesday we called to inquire about the part we were waiting for, however they failed to tell us that the part had come in and we needed to schedule a time to come and install it. They indicated the only time was five days later...on Labor Day. They said if we were willing to have them come out on Labor Day we could have it repaired first thing in the morning. Unfortunately we know will cancel all of our Labor Day plans and are sitting around waiting. We even called at 8 o'clock this morning to verify they were going to come out this morning, however they are still not here and are not going to be here until this afternoon. So frustrating since this has been going on 8/23/15 and it is now 9/7/15.

We have now paid a $75 service fee five times, approximately $800 in Freon ( which has had to be "topped off" a couple times even though we were told there is no leak...it was just "calibrated wrong") and we still don't have a functioning air conditioning unit upstairs. Our kids have had to sleep on the sofa is downstairs for the past two weeks because it has been so hot upstairs and they have been so slow in getting this done. This is extremely frustrating I would NEVER willingly use them again. We have filed a complaint American home Shield as well...

This is been the most frustrating experience we never dealt with with any of our homes.

UPDATE 10/28/15
Once again out air conditioning unit is not working. This will be I think the 7th time in 13 months that our AC unit has broken. I am completely not satisfied with B&D or American Hime Shield. The quality of work and the ability to diagnose the problem should be better than this. Especially since we have now spent several thousand dollars on this. Last time when we asked why our thermal expansion valve had failed again, even though it had been replaced 2 months prior, we were told "sometimes this just happens". Maybe..but not 4 times in 1 year! Would STRONGLY recommend avoiding B&D and AHS. We just filed another service call for our unit and will absolutely refuse to have B&D service our property again.

Update 11/5/2015
We finally had a second air-conditioning company come out and evaluate our air conditioning unit. As we had suspected there has been a long term a problem with get off the field Tyl we finally had a second air-conditioning company come out and evaluate our air conditioning unit. As we had suspected there has been a long term a problem with our air conditioning unit in a have found a major Freon leak. We had it refilled, we paid almost $1000 for this, approximately six months ago. Two months later they needed to come and "top it off" insisting that there was no leak and set all of her issues were due to "dirty filters" and we needed to have our units clean. The units I just been cleaned in the filters were one month old. Air-conditioning unit are you in work for a few months and here we are again. B and D completely ran a scam on us and I would strongly advise anybody from using their services ever again. Completely shady and poor business practice. The whole time all we are raising his objections and questioning why am or was not being done to figure out what was going on, we were treated extremely rudely. " sometimes these things happen". This is completely unacceptable . I'm glad we have someone else coming out to service our units finally. Hopefully, after over 1 year, we can get them fixed.

We called B&D for an estimate on replacing our aging heat pump system.  They were quick to come out, and we spent 30 minutes talking about what we needed and what was best for us.  We opted for the 14 SEER unit, and HE advised this over the 15 SEER as the energy saved from 14 to 15 would not be recouped for many years.  Also stated that Train (we ad a rudd/train unit) had went down in quality and they now only sold Carrier.  (I had also heard that from other sources)
No attempt was made to up-sell, just want we needed.
The installers were on time, very professional in the their work. Spent much time cleaning up after work, and:
Over and above the contract,  we had problems with air flow and cooling to a far bedroom.  They went into the ducts and installed an air scoop to redirect the flow.  Problem solved!

Mo Rivers was a true professional who solved the problem of what was wrong with the central air. very quickly.  He  replaced the motor.  It took quite awhile as he had to do a lot of work to installl the new motor.   Not the easiest job but he was professional, courteous, knowledgeable,  and  did the repair to our great satisfaction!     Based on our experience with this genttleman, I woould ask for him again if we need any additional repairs to the central air.  He checked everything before leaving and found nothing else wrong with the system.   This was a repair done through AHS.

Had compressor go out on my upstairs AC unit.
Contacted American Home Shield to process this via my home warranty.
Band D was notified of problem and appointment was made to conduct repairs.
I was preempted that there would be 400 dollar customer cost for the R22 refrigerant that AHS would not pick up as per our contract. I agreed, knowing how costly R-22 is and my unit would need around 8 lbs.
Compressor was delivered to Band D and they came straight out to install it. When the technician arrived he came straight in my house with the invoice showing the 400 dollar customer charge for 8lbs of R22. He asked if I would be paying check and I informed him I would.
Compressor was installed and leak tested, all sat. This is where it took a wrong turn. He then begin to charge the system with R407c (much inferior blend and only a fraction of the cost of R-22). I took pictures of the invoice and the tech charging r407c in to my system.
I asked the tech why he was billing me for R22 instead of R407c and his response was that he just does what he's told to do. I cam back inside my house and phone Band D. I spoke with the receptionist who to my info and informed me that the Service Manager was out of the office and he will call me as soon as he gets in. I told her that we need resolution now because I am not paying 400 dollars for something that I did not get and basically I feel scammed. She had no answer and told me to just stand by for a phone call.
The technician and caught on that I was wise as to what was happening and had phoned his boss (Mr. Schwartz). He told me that I could just pay half that price and call it good ($200). I said no, that's not how this works. He turned around and called Mr. Schwartz back and handed me the phone.
Obviously now I'm on the phone with an ACand R company owner who has been busted but yet he treats me as if I'm just some random person who knows nothing about refrigerants or common business ethics. He did however offer me a chance to have them come back at a later date to charge with R22 then I could pay the full amount... Mind you I have a full time job in which I have to take off to put up with this. He tried to play it off as a simple mistake and nothings wrong with it... you be the judge. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm the home owner, I'm the paying customer, in this situation I'm the judge.
Trust me this is not a mistake and it is absolute scam worthy. You are warned. Stay away from B and D

Those guys should be put out of business. It's the most god-awful place I've ever seen. They sent one guy out to do it. He diagnosed the problem. Another guy came out here and tore it up and then another came in here and tried to put it together so he had to call the second guy to come over here and try to correct it and they never fixed the original problem. When the third guy got all done and I looked in that A/C unit, I said, "Is this normally how you leave a job?" and he looked at me and goes, "Yes, it's usually how we leave it." I spent 2 hours correcting their mistakes. I left a very demeaning and derogatory statement on their website

THANK YOU Band D for solving my nightmare. I had my compressor replaced by another HVAC company in the area. Two months later the AC stops working. I called company and quot;xand quot; to assess the problem, and they showed up to inform me that they did not have the and quot;diagnosticsand quot; to determine the problem. Band D came out and determined within 10 minutes that the freon tank had cracked and all the Freon had leaked out of the storage tank. No diagnostic equipment needed to determine the problem, just an honest service provider. Band D replaced the tank and ALSO discovered that company and quot;xand quot; had installed the wrong compressor two months prior!! I verified their discovery with Carrier and confirmed that the compressor company and quot;xand quot; installed would have corroded in another two to three months of use. Band D was HONEST, FAIR, PROFESSIONAL and COMPETENT. They have serviced my unit twice and I will only use their company in the future. The front desk is also very courteous and professional too. They work hard to get you service as soon as possible.

I submitted a request through my AHS home warranty for a non working HVAC unit on Saturday night. Band D was the assigned service provider. Monday morning I received a call from Band D to set up the appointment for Wednesday. No problem for me since this is the upstairs unit. Received a call Wednesday morning 20 minutes prior to technician arrival. I met with him, explained what the until was doing (or not doing in this case) and he quickly verified that the capacitor had burned up. 10 minutes later the unti was back on and operating. Technician explained that he had upgraded the part with a higher performing one which should last longer. No additional sales pitch for a future service contract, just identified my problem and repaired. I appreciate the quick response knowing full well that these guys are slammed with work this time of year due to the heat. I will recommend and use them again.

The a/c went out on a home we just purchased 4 months ago. Initially I forgot that we had a home warranty and engaged a different company to fix the a/c. After 4 service trips over 3 days our a/c still wasn't working and the other company couldn't diagnosis the problem. They left it as we must have some sort of electrical issue. At that time I remembered the home warranty and got that process started. Band D was at my house within 1 day of the initial service call. The tech (Ray) diagnosed the problem within 15 minutes on the job. Our a/c was shutting down because the previous company had installed the wrong size motor. Essentially the motor was too big/powerful for the unit so it was overheating and causing the system to shut down. He called the manufacturer, determined the correct size motor and ordered it that day. Ray was back within 3 business days to install the new motor. Within 4 hours the internal temperature of my house was down from 89 to 74 degrees and has been holding steady since. I have always heard bad stories about warranty work and the companies that do the work but was extremely pleased with the job done at my place. The problem was properly diagnosed the first time around and the new motor was properly installed.
My only complain was that the hours they gave me for the initial service call and the install were different than the actual times the tech arrived. The service call was scheduled between 1 and 3. The tech arrived at 8 am. The install was scheduled between 1 and 3. The tech arrived at noon. Fortunately my wife works from home so she was available, but if she didn't it would have been a logistic pain to rush home from the office. That said, I would rather someone show up early than late and I now have working a/c so I'm not complaining.

The technician was late, but I do understand that they have long days to fill especially in the summer time. I carefully reviewed what the Smoak's technician had told me, especially about the rusty/oily residue from the coils in the drip pan. He said that this was completely normal and did not even bother to go up and look at the unit in the attic. Instead he went straight outside put the Fix-a-Leak into the system and put freon in. He told me my unit held 20# of freon compared to what Smoak's told me at 6-7# freon. I understand that he was sent by AHS and that they will do very little but band-aid the system. However, I would have felt better if he took more time to look at the system in the attic. I know it is a hot job and late in the day, but he seemed in a hurry and disinterested with the other inspection I had already had done. He said because the other technician had added freon, and the home was cooling slightly better already, there was not enough justification to suggest a major repair of any sort.

The work they performed was excellent. We went with B and D Heating after getting quotes from 4 companies, including the company that serviced our old system. We picked them because of their excellent Angie's list ratings, the quality of their equipment, their competitive pricing and the quality of the people that work there. We were impressed that they didn't try to oversell our needs.
Josh, Charles and Kenny showed up on time on the day of the installation. The quality of their work was excellent. The work was completed in a timely manner. The follow up on their work was excellent. We will recommend this company to our friends. We are very satisfied.
